The place was a very nice
place to hold a World Championship, although the STS in New Jersey was about 3
times the size. That was probably the best event they've ever held. Lots of
people agree with me on that one :) Anyway, on to the report! Me and PokeMama
(my mom) were very excited about the whole thing. She entered in the Unlimited Tournament
that they were having, and I entered in the World Championship (of course :)).
This is the deck that I used there...
4 Horsea (Neo Genesis)
4 Seadra (Neo Genesis)
4 Kingdra (Neo Revelation)
3 Cleffa (Neo Genesis)
2 Tyrogue (Neo Genesis)
1 Pichu (Neo Genesis)
1 Pikachu (Neo Genesis)
1 Surfing Pikachu (Promo #28)
4 Professor Elm
4 Bill
4 Pokémon Trader
4 Pokémon Center
4 Double Gust
4 Focus Band
2 Energy Stadium
8 Water Energy
4 Recycle Energy
2 Full Heal Energy
The theme of the deck is
to use Kingdra's Genetic Memory to use Bubble for only one Energy card, and
charge up another Kingdra on the Bench to use Twister. You try to get as many
Kingdras out as you can, and use Pokémon Center to heal them of their damage
counters, and keep striking for a consistant 30 damage.
Round 1 - Bryson Bonham
(Slowking/Espeon/Umbreon)
Game 1 - 0-1
This match didn't start
out that good. I had a Tyrouge and a Cleffa, but he only had an Eevee. I think
I won the coin flip, but I had no Energy, and no useful Trainers, so I couldn't
really do anything. That First-Turn Knock Out (FTKO) was so tempting... But yet
I couldn't get it. :( I ended up losing the first match.
Game 2 - 1-1
I made a comeback in this
game, and FTKOed him with Tyrouge :)
Game 3 - 2-1
In a very close game, I
managed to get Kingdra out and running, and ended up winning this one.
Result: Win (3-0)
Round 2 - Joe Spanier
(Lanturn/Murkrow/Slowking)
Game 1 - 0-1
Ugh. I had terrible coin
flips against him. He slaughtered me with... Light Lanturn O.o I was quite
surprised as to how potent that card was against Kingdra decks.
Game 2 - 1-1
I managed to beat him in
this game. I got Kingdra out and running before he could beat me with his
Lanturns. I also used a nicely timed Full Heal Energy in this game to end up
curing my Kingdra of Confusion.
Game 3 - 1-2
Blah, he got SO lucky
with his flips. I had the worst luck with flips in the room at that time though
:\ Well, it seemed to be the worst in the room... Seemed to me at least. :P
Result: Loss (3-0)
Round 3 - Tom Liesegang
(Kingdra/Slowking)
Game 1 - 0-1
Now this was cool :) Tom
and I played in the ECSTS of 2001, and I ended up beating him in the 8th round,
but he came back and beat me in the quarterfinals of the Top-8. We had a blast
for all 3 of our games. He had the advantage for the first one though.
Game 2 - 1-1
I rouged him ;P
Game 3 - 1-2
This was probably the
funniest game that I played that day. I was viciously attacking him with my
rabid PIKACHUUUUUU!! I realized that I couldn't win, so I had some fun making
him use Pokémon Center on the Kingdra that I was terrorizing with my rabid
Pika. He ended up winning, 'cuz I couldn't get anything due to his Slowkings,
but it was still a VERY fun match :)
Result: Loss (3-0)
Round 4 - Michael Perucca (Steelix/Kabutops)
Game 1 - 1-0
Man, now this was FUN. I
was 0wning him with Kingdra, and he only had 4 Kabutos. Although they kept
doing a lot of damage to Kingdra... But, anyway, I managed to get 3 damage
counters on all of them, and then I layed down the Pichu, and ZZZAP! Boom! 4
Prizes! One turn! And that won me game 1 :)
Game 2 - 1-1
He got out Steelix and a
bunch of Kabutops' and my Kingdra just couldn't handle the intense beating that
they were giving me.
Game 3 - 1-1 TIE
We didn't get too far in
this game before they called time. It ended up to be a tie.
Result: Tie (4-0)
Round 5 - Jared Hawkins (Dark
Gengar/Slowking/Murkrow)
Game 1 - 1-0
Dark Gengar and co. just
couldn't stand up to Kingdra... I don't really remember a lot of what happened,
but I do know that I ended up beating him pretty bad.
Game 2 - 2-0
I did some more 0wning,
and won this with Kingdra :)
Result: Win (7-0)
I ended up getting 41st
in the event. Not quite as well as I wanted, but oh well, I still had a great
time! PokeMama on the other hand was on fire over at the Unlimited Tournament!
She ended up making top 8, but then got eliminated... :\ I played in some
Sealed Deck side events. Where you get 4 Legendary Collection packs, and you
have to build a 40 card deck using only those cards and Basic Energy provided.
I didn't do good at all over there :\ But it was still pretty fun :)
Well, after taking 41st
on the first day, I decided to go there and play in the side events on the
second day, seeing as I didn't make Top 32. But, I was determined to have fun!
=) Anyway, I started the day to a nice breakfast, and then we headed to the
event.
The first event I decided
to compete in was one of the Modified Side Events. Both me and PokeMama
competed in it. It was an 8 person Elimination Tournament. I was playing Dark
Blastiose/Slowking (despite the fact that I've been traumatized by him from the
previous day). And PokeMama was playing a Dark Raichu/Umbreon deck.
Unfortunatly, I got
eliminated first round 'cuz all I had was a SLOWPOKE! >.< No Trainers, no
other Benched Pokemon, NOTHING. >.< Oh well. PokeMama made it past the first
round, but lost in the second round. =(
So, after that, we just
hung out, and did some trading. I did some drawing, and did some trading as
well. After that, we decided to go back to the room, and have a Subway Sub, =)
Afterward, we head back
to the main event, and we heard that our friend's daughter, Mindy Lambkee, that
we met at the STS, and saw at the CSC, was in the Top 8! We wanted to enter in
one of the various other tournaments before we got there, but we got tied up
watching her matches in the Top 8! We got there just in time to see the
Quarter-Finals.
Here's the deck that
Mindy used in the Championship!
4 Slowpoke (Neo
Genesis)
4 Slowking (Neo Genesis)
4 Phanpy (Neo Destiny)
3 Donphan (Neo Genesis)
3 Cleffa (Neo Genesis)
2 Tyrogue (Neo Discovery)
4 Professor Elm
4 Bill
4 Pokemon Trader
3 Double Gust
3 Balloon Berry
3 Focus Band
2 Bill's Teleporter
2 Mary
2 Magnifier
1 Pokemon Center
12 Fighting Energy
10
and under Quarter-Finals
Mindy Lambkee (WA) vs. Jeffrey Vernola (WA)
Mindy had a pretty good
game against him, although we just got there as it was ending. Mindy ended up
winning against Jeffrey's Entei/Magcargo deck by using her Donphan like mad. =)
10
and under Semi-Finals
Mindy Lambkee (WA) vs. Jefry Robert (Belgium)
Now this was one of those
close matches. Mindy lost her first game to the ferocious power of
Entei/Magcargo, but then made a come back in game 2, and ended up winning that
one. In the third round, it was a very close match, and through some clever
Double Gusting, Mindy managed to beat Jefry, and make her way up to the finals!
10
and under Finals
Mindy Lambkee (WA) vs. Ryan Carter (CO)
This is it! This match is
the one that'll determine the 10 and under WORLD CHAMPION! We were all rooting
for Mindy of course =) Ryan used a ferocious Kingdra/Steelix deck, and did
massive damage to her in the first round by using Pichu against her Slowkings.
Ryan won the first match. Then, in the second match, Mindy got her Slowkings
out, and it was a very close game, but after Mindy defeated his Steelix, there
was nothing that would stop her from winning that game. So the score was 1-1.
The winner of this game would decide it. Mindy had to go second in this match.
Ryan got his Steelix out, and was inflicting some massive damage with it. But
Mindy had her Slowkings out, and was building up a Donphan. After shutting down
his Trainers, Ryan had to use some cunning, and use Cleffa to draw cards. Ryan
also did 60 damage to one of Mindy's Donphan, so she started building up
another one, and by the time she KOed the Cleffa, she had it ready to go. Ryan
was stuck with a Steelix, and another Cleffa on his Bench, and then... They
called time! Mindy had 2 Prizes left, and Ryan had 5 Prizes left... Mindy Lambkee
is the first 10 and under WORLD CHAMPION! Also, she's the only female Pokémon
player to place that high! Such big accomplishments! =) Great job Mindy! =) And
congrats to everyone else in the World Championship!
This is how the pairings
were...

Also, I didn't get much
of a chance to see the 11-14 Top 8, but I do have the standings!

Congrats to Dylan Austin,
the first 11-14 WORLD CHAMPION! And Congrats to everyone who participated!
All and all, the day was
great. I'm pretty sure everyone had a good time, and it was nice and fun. =)
Alas, it will be the last large-scale tournament that I'll be able to
participate in, 'cuz I turn 15 in September, but I sure had a blast! And I'll
never forget the experiences of not only this event, but all of them that I've
gone to, and did my best at!
