I went to
Round 1 vs.
Michael (lots of ex's)
I started with a Ralts & Dual Ball, and only
one more Ralts in the deck. I took 6 prizes, mostly with Wobbuffet, and he
couldn't knock out anything that I threw at him.
1-0
Round 2 vs.
Jimmy (Mewtwo, Jumpluff, Gorebyss)
Rocket's Admin. did me in. He
dumped them after I smiled, and I only had 2 Ralts in the deck. Mt Moon
screwed my Wynaut, not allowing them to evolve, and he got 4 quick prizes before
nailing my Gex. I got 2 Gorebyss.
1-1
Round 3 vs. Abe
(Magma)
He never really had a bench, only got a Camerupt and
Zangoose. I never lost a Poke. Early game, Celio got me Ralts
benched with Kirlia and Gardy in my hand, Smile got a Wobb, which got 3
prizes. Gardy and Gex took everything else.
2-1
Round 4 vs.
Dan (Gardybyss)
I really don't remember much about this battle, he got a
couple of things with Ralts, but I got both Gex set up and it was close the
whole way, 1 prize win for me.
3-1
Round 5 vs. Jeff (Dark Crobat,
Mantine)
Somehow, he pulled that off. He got of quick and I
didn't pull a candy until late. Poison is horrible, so is
weakness.
3-2
Round 6 vs. menoknow (speedrill)
I don't
remember his name, only his Pokegym handle. This is a FAST deck. If
I'd have gotten 1 more Kirlia, it would've been GG me. Couldn't get Gardy
and Gex out fast enough, and 80 is enough to take out all of my
basics.
3-3
I made T8 in the 15+ division with that 3-3
record. The tourney had almost every single type of deck imaginable, and
some that I wouldn't have thought of in my wildest dreams. David Coleman
III won the 15+ with his Monarchy, Jason Chen won the 11-14 but I didn't catch
what he was playing, and the 10- only had 2 people in it.
The Kaufman
Experience--
The deck that I was originally
going to play was just not my style. It was a really complicated one that
involved three lines and was absolutely screwed if I was unlucky enough not to
get one specific card right away. So, I had Ryan build me a new deck. We had no
trouble trading for Dark Steelix (because no one wanted them), and we built a
deck that was originally supposed to be focused on the Machamp with the Dark
Steelix as stalling backup. However, that's where it all changed--Dark Steelix
turned out to be DOMINATING once I got him out. I went 3-1 overall when I got
him out, fully loaded-and it was endless fun equipping him with tons of metal
and dark energy.
Round 1
A deck with Mewtwo Ex. After I KOed his
first one, he didn't play his others, and I then was forced to shift my strategy
as well; too late, and I lost a close one, though not too close.
1-0
Round 2
I came up against an old friend from my own days of
playing--he and I had both retired at seperate times, but now, he's back in the
game full time, I believe. I just play for fun--and it WAS fun. He took an early
3 prize lead, but then I got out my DARK STEELIX!!! he killed about 4 of my
opponant's pokemon before finally succumbing to burn AND poison after about 8
turns. I got out a second one, but a lucky roll of the die ended my game by ONE
PRIZE. damn. 0-2
Round 3
Finally, I get some luck--although, it too
comes at a pretty late point in the game. Yet another game determined by the
roll of the dice--this time, in my favor. He had trouble getting up any energy
really early, which gave the Dark Steelix I eventually got out free reign over
his first 4 pokemon, after he had been able to knock out a bunch of my basics.
Thankfully, I took a 2-1 lead over prizes, but he was able to knock out the
Steelix. I had to make do without ANY energy on my onix until he had 60 damage,
and wasn't able to knock out the pokemon until I had 80 damage on my steelix--a
close win to push my record to 2-1. Yay.
Round 4
Another win, although
I'm a little short on the details. This was domination from start to finish--i
started out with an onix, Dark Steelix, 2 darks and a metal in my hand, and he
wasn't able to get energy 'til turn 6. I won. 2-2.
Round 5
Well, I put
up a fight, but there was no way that I could have won. I had to take several
turns were I couldn't build up any pokemon, and I was up against the FIRST fire
deck to EVER get any energy out. I put up a valiant effort, but only picked up 3
prizes. The consolation--I got out all 3 of the Dark Steelix, only to find that
my energy reserves were not as capable as I thought. Oh well. 2-3.
Round
6
I was determined here not to have a losing record--luckily, my opponants'
final ttack was stopped when I realized that he didn't have enough energy on his
pokemon to do it. He had 3 energy on the Team Magma Groudon, but only 1 was
fire, and he couldn't use the finishing attack on me. I killed it next turn, but
unfortunately time was called before I could finish his last pokemon--and I
would have, too.
Now, I've been told that the only way I could possibly
win in overtime was if I had an onix, Dark Steelix and a bunch of special
energies in my hand right away. And, that's exactly how it was. I wailed from
start to finish of the short sudden death game, and was able to finish with a
respectable 3-3 record--about what I expected. 12th place.
After that, we
had a draft, In which I achieved third place out of the 11 participants. It was
fun, and I finished with a 4-2 record--only 3% short of beating out Ryan by
whatever system they were using. Oh well, like I said, it was fun, and that was
the only reason that I was playing
for.
