hello. here's a tournament report from the scottish
state championships.
Scottish State Championships: Report
Report by PokeGuru
Sunday May 15th 2005
Lion and Dragon Pub, Denny, Scotland
Because our State Championships were later than the
other UK ones, we had a special rule: no EX:Emerald
cards were allowed. I decided to take advantage of that
by playing a deck not seen often in our league:
DraggyTrode. So, after my pre-tournament burger king, i
made my decklist.
3 Dratini
2 Dark Dragonair
3 Dark Dragonite
2 Voltorb
2 Dark Electrode
2 Pidgey
1 Pidgeotto
2 Pidgeot
1 Kangaskhan
4 Dunsparce
4 Rare Candy
3 Rocket's Poke Ball
2 Swoop! Teleporter
2 Switch
2 Celio's Network
2 Strength Charm
1 ATM (Rock)
3 Copycat
3 Steven's Advice
1 Prof. Cozmo's Discovery
2 Desert Ruins
1 Lanette's Net Search
2 Rainbow Energy
4 Dark Metal Energy
4 Darkness Energy
4 R Energy
I playtest it in a few games beforehand and it does
well, so I look forward to the tournament. It's 4 rounds
of Age-Modified Swiss to decide who's the champ. Yikes.
I play in 11-14, arguably the most competitive division
this year. :-\
Round 1 vs. Allan (11-14, Poison Death- weird
Arbok/Weezing combo)
Had to get paired with a friend on Round 1, didn't I? A
couple of lone Ekans and a benched Cacnea stand in the
way of my Dunsparce. I had a near perfect set-up, only
taking 4 turns to get to full power. His last Pokemon
was Cacnea, which I thrashed due to Dark D-Nite's
Resistance to pick up a good R1 victory.
1-0-0
Round 2 vs. Alistair (11-14, Blaziken)
He failed to get out enough basics in time and started
with a lone Moltres ex. After a few turns, he had
another pokemon, but it was too late; I was already on a
roll and it was a T5 or T6 victory for me. GG.
2-0-0
Round 3 vs. Ross (10-, Dark D-Nite)
Forced to play a 10- as only 2 others have the same
record as me. He knew about how good my deck was
beforehand as he faced it, so he tried to copy it. He
failed though; his set-up was terrible. GG. but improve
the start up i.e. ADD DUNSPARCE!
3-0-0
The only person left with that record was the league
leader and, usually, TO. But, he wasn't TOing this time,
to my regret...
Round 4 vs. Gordon (15+, Birds {Zappy/Moltres})
I was lucky as he had a bad start-up. He was starting to
catch up when I played a mid-game Desert Ruins. I was
doing well, until he plays Rayquaza ex to KO my Dark
Dragonite. And that's when it happened. Next turn, I
evolve to another Dark Dragonite and move a Darkness
Energy from Dark Electrode to Dark Dragonite. Use
Pidgeot's Quick Search to find a Darkness or Dark Metal
Energy. Attach to Dark Dragonite. Dark Electrode
searches for another energy to attach to Dark Dragonite.
I was about to attack when he claims he did not see the
first energy. Because of that, we all get confused and
decide to start again. But we're running low on time, so
he offers to ID and I accept. I was tired and could be
bothered playing again. We'd both won our age groups
anyway, so I wasn't worried.
3-1-0
So I finish with 3 wins and a draw. I end up winning
11-14. Ross, the 10- I played in Round 3 wins 10- and
Gordon wins 15+. EVERYONE in the tournament qualified
for the UK Nationals so we're happy about that. Less
than 3 weeks till Nationals now; I'll send in the
results ASAP afterward. Wish me luck.
Props:
PUI for offering such a cool trophy
Gordon for being OK with IDing last match.
Burger King for giving me such a nutritious meal
beforehand.
DraggyTrode for doing so well.
Slops:
Nothing really.
