In that battle(diglett vs. Mr Mime) Mr. Mime would have won.  Mr Mime's
Power prevents any damage 30 or higher. So Diglett's Mud Slap wouldn't work
against Mime.  Only dig would...   Mime would kill Diglett in 2 hits, Diglett
would need 4.
       Also, you got mixed up on the energy RULES.  you don't discard energy
to attack unless the attack specificly says to.  Check page 12 of the
Rulebook.
       And it's not embarrassing to be beaten by a Diglett.  Diglett can kill
all of those 40 HP basics(Bellsprout, Poliwag, Pikachu) in 2 turns unless
it's killed before so.  So unless the other guy goes first and can do 20 or
30 damage in 1 hit and they have 40- HP you can kill them!!!
