I highly disagree with those who knock Exeggutor,
particularly those who use convuluted logic and
overbiased examples to make their argument.
Anyways, I'll make my argument from the standpoint
of a trainer who wants to utilize a Pokemon's
strength, not one who looks at it's weakness. While
it makes sense to size up a Pokemon's weakness, don't make judgements until
you FULLY size up that
Pokemon's strength as well. Otherwise, you're going
to underestimate your competition and lose to an
unexpected application of a Pokemon you thought you
could easily beat.
But now it's time for me to defend my beloved
Pokemon. First off, Exeggutor may be an Uncommon
card, but the Big Eggsplosion attack is still only
offerred through it, and it is an awesome, flexible
attack. It's a colorless attack, so no resistance can be used against it. It
has no limit (besides energy
cost) to how much damage it can do; Can other Pokemon claim the same? Sure,
it could cost you in the long
run if you put too much energy into Exeggutor, but
just give it 3 or 4 energy and it is still
formidable. Knock an Exeggutor all you like, fellow
trainers; You face one with 5 or 6 energy cards and
you are definitely losing at least 1 Pokemon, most
likely 2, and possibly the whole game if the
Exeggutor gets up and running before your bench does. I would also like to
add that the powerfulness of the attack shouldn't overshadow it's
flexibility: Even if you don't have energy to spare, 1 card for a 50%
chance of doing 20pts. of colorless damage isn't that bad. So, even if an
Exeggutor is energy drained, it
could still make an effective attack. Most any other
Pokemon that got energydrained would not even be able to make an attack
unless re-energized. Even then they might need a specific energy card to
re-use that
attack; Any energy card will power the Big
Eggsplosion.
Reluctant to commit heaps of energy to Exeggutor
because you are afraid he'll be knocked out and that
energy will got to waste? Why? He has 80 hit points
and can Teleport out of combat for the energy
commitment of one psychic card (A psychic card that
doubles as fuel for Big Eggsplosion!). So, he most
likely isn't going to die in one shot, and can
retreat to be healed/fight again, albeit at the cost
of a turn, as Teleport takes up an attack. Whether or not Exeggutor is
loaded with energy, Teleport can
still be used to bring in a benched Pokemon that may
be more resistant to or better equipped to attack
whatever opponent you are facing. Being that my deck
almost always has Mr. Mime and Porygon in it too,
Exeggutor can teleport in such Pokemon specially
skilled at ignoring damage.
My last point will be that Exeggutor is also a good
card because Exeggcute is a pretty good basic card to evolve from. It's 50
HP ain't bad; Neither is
automatic sleep for the cost f 1 psychic energy.
Couple that up with Leech Seed, and you get a card
that effectively acts as two cards: A Jigglypuff and
A Bulbasaur. It can continuously stall/heal until it
comes time to evolve into Exeggutor. Who knows how
many energy it may have attached to it by then!
So, if you still don't like Exeggutor, that's your
loss! It's an excellent addition to any deck,
particularly a psychic one. And it does what every
good Pokemon should do: Have the ability to apply
it's self usefully in a way unique to it alone. I
feel I have effectively demonstrated this by
describing the many uses of the Big Eggsplosion and
Teleport abilities.
I hope all those who knocked Exeggcute/Exeggcutor have been left with some
egg on their face!
