I keep seeing comparisons about these three that don't even take Pokepowers
into consideration. The obvious order is this:
#1 Blastoise
#2 Venusaur
a distant #3 Charizard
People dis blastoise because he takes five energy to do 60 damage. So
WHAT!!!!! I never use that attack with my raindance unless a) it's early
on and 60 damage will kill anyone, or b) I have one prize left.
Otherwise, Blastoise slaps energy on Articuno, who has no weakness.
Venusaur isn't as good as Blastoise because he's only useful in the late
game, and his power doesn't translate into as much speed. Blastoise can
get Articuno up and running in one turn. Vensaur needs to have energy
already on the table to pump people up. The other problem with Venusaur is
that if you transfer everything to one guy (like an exeggutor or something)
and it gets killed, you have to start all over. If my Articuno gets killed
with 4 energy on it, I can pump up another guy with the energy in my hand
right away. This also means that Blastoise decks are less vulnerable to ER
and SER than Venusaur decks.
Venusaur blows away Charizard, though. Charizard can't have a deck built
around him, which Blastoise and Venusaur can. He's not terrible, but not
nearly as good as the other two.
So, I'm here to remind you that, between the three, powers are the most
important criterion. I don't care if Charizard has a resistance, and I
don't care if Venusaur's retreat is only 2. Blastoise is the best because
(and ONLY because) of his power, which is the best in the game. And his
power is so good that it makes him probably the second best pokemon in the
TCG (next to Electabuzz IMHO)
