This article is in response to Satoshi's article on these three giants.
Satoshi is mostly comparing the rarity of the cards. Hello rarity doesn't matter in the game.  You must compare staticits.  First off lets look at there first forms.  You can't start with Charizard, Venusuar or Blastoise.

there basic forms
Squirtle 40HP attacks 1 energy for 10 and chance of paralyze plus withdraw 2 energy and prevent damage.
Charmander 50HP attacks 1 energy for 10 and 2 energy for 30 and 1 discard energy
Bulbasaur 40 HP attacks 2 enrgy for 20 and heal 10.

Best Hp----Charmander
Strongest attacks-----Charmander
Quickest damage-----Charmander and Squirtle.
Retreat-----none all have retreat of 1
weakness--naturally there have ther respective weakness
resistance--none
status effects---Squirtle

There Stage 1's
Wartortle 70 HP attacks Withdraw same as squirtle and 40 damage for 1 water and 2 colorless
Charmeleon 80 HP attacks 30 for 3 colorless and 50 for 2 fire and a colorless and discard 1
Ivysaur 60 HP attacks 30 for 1 grass and 2 colorless and 3 grass for 20 plus poison.

Best Hp---- Charmeleon
Strongest attacks---Charmeleon
Quickest damage----I guess Charmeleon because of all colorless but Wartortle foer 2 and defend attacks.
Retreat----all the same
Weakness---normal
Resistance---none
Status effects---Ivysaur

Blastoise---Power- place as much water as you want. Hydro pump 30 for 3 water plus 10 more for each water extra.
Charizard---Power-all energy on charizard becomes fire.
Fire Spin 4 energy for 100 and discard 2 energy.
Venusaur---Power--switch around your grass energy Solar beam for 4 energy 60 damage.

Best HP---Charizard
Strongest attacks--Charizard
Quickest damage--Blastoise or Venusaur
Retreat---all the same
Weakness--normal
Resistance---Charizard
Status efects--none.

According to this Charizard wins all the way.
Charmander beats the basics battles. 40 in 2 turns
Bulbasaur a swing of 30 in two turns
Squirtle 20 in two turns.

Charmeleon has higher Hp stronger attacks.
Ivysaur low attacks low HP.
Wartortle 2 energy prevent damage 50/50 damage
and 40 fo 3 energy, a close 2nd.

Charizard has the energy problem but you should have energy from Charmeleon and because of energy burn double colorless works.  Blastoise can dump all your energy on your pokemon that is very useful and Venusuar can switch energy.

So there that is why Charizard is better because Charmander beats the basics in every way so does Charmeleon and then Charizard for the stage 2 and plus all evolutions in the Char family can use colorless attacks.  Venusaur and Blastoise need there corresponding energy.  I could go on and on but my fingers are hurting and I'm going to stop I think I have proved my point that Charizard rules.  Venusaur and Blastoise works in strategic decks.  I use a 4-3-2 Char evolution and 4 fossil magmar with 4 gust 3 trader and 4 potion and 4 super potion with 23 fire energy and 4 double colorless.
