Hello Poke-Freaks! The long awaited Mew should now be available for all poke
leaugers to get there hands on. But how good is it? First let's look at
Mew's stats:
Type:Psychic Basic Pokemon
HP:50
Attacks-
Psywave(P)-10X Does 10 damage times the number of Energy cards attached to
the Defending Pokemon.
Devolution Beam(PP)-Choose an evolved Pokemon (your own or your opponent's).
Return the highest Stage Evolution card on that Pokemon to its players hand.
That Pokemon is no longer Asleep, Confused, Paralyzed, Poisoned, or anything
else that might be the result of an attack (just as if you had evolved it).
Weakness:Psychic
Retreat Cost:(C)
Well Mew is obviuosly a strong attack with a 1 energy Psywave. He's a great
surprise for that Pinsir that the opponent is harrasing you with. He's also
a great hit and run against the Promo MewTwo, he does 60 damage to it since
MewTwo almost always has 3 Energy attached or more if you used ER and he
used Energy Absorbtion. A good attacker, but don't base yer deck on 'em if
you're playing a haymaker. But this is what all the hype was about,
Devolution Beam. It deffinatley isn't what the translations have been saying
about it. The de-evolved pokemon goes back to the owner's HAND. Not good,
in-fact it'll have no effect at all on the pokemon devolve unless of course
you have an Aerodactyl. But you probably won't need to in most cases. But
wait a second, Devolution could actually be a free knock out! Just like
Devolution Spray if you devolve say a Blastoise with 90 damage on it
Wartortle will be automaticlly KO'd because it has less HP then damage
counters on it! This is an amazingly powerful move especially on pokemon
with weak stages. But once again only under certain circumstances is this
attack powerful. But when there are the right circumstances Mew is extremly
powerful.
So all in all Mew can be amazingly powerful, with a couple GOWs you can
knock out a Blastoise without even directly attacking it. If your deck
contains Psychic pokemon, then why not throw in 1 or 2 Mew? Even if you're
playing a Haymaker his Psywave can be a great surprise! Devolution Beam can
grab you a few free prizes and really slow down a stall or Rain Dance deck.
But Mew is also a tricky card to play, it's a little too risky to completly
base your deck around him. You need to do things at the exact right time
which can be very binding or even deadly. So it's usually a good idea to
give yourself another option when playing Mew in a deck. Or don't make him
the base just use him to get some extra prizes like GOW. Try teaming him up
with Gengar, keep moving damage to an evolved pokemon then knock 'em dead
with Devolution Beam. Or, use bench inducing attacks to get damage on those
evos.. There will be many cards that go great with Mew in the future, keep
your eye out!
There you have it, Mew is a hard pokemon to use effectivley and requires
lots of practice and cards to let him unleash his amazing powers.
