Not quite sure why I'm writing this, I just felt like it... As the
subject
suggests, I'm going to talk about Challenge!, or more specifically,
Challenge! in Wigglytuff decks. When team Rocket came out, many people
looked at Challenge! and immediately thought "Wiggly!" And the
idea seems
good at first- either fill up your bench (do the wave) or get a free bill
(good card). However, there's another side to it. The first problem
is the
fact that your opponent can also fill up his bench, giving him more Pokemon
to throw at your Wiggly, more Pokemon you'll need to kill. The next
problem
is the long run. The first time you use Challenge and fill up your bench,
you're fine. But after your bench is full you have no need to search for
Pokemon. If your bench is already full, assuming your opponen's isn't, why
would your opponent give you a Bill when he could just search for more
Pokemon for his bench? Once yours is already full, he can accept the
challenge without helping you any. So much for free Bill.
So when you think about it, it's either-
Full bench at the cost of your opponent filling his bench with Basics of his
choice (can you say "Hitmonchan?"). Or...
Free Bill that works only if your bench isn't full. But don't you want a
full bench in a Wiggly? What if you need Bill later in the game? And
if
your opponent accepts the first Challenge, the rest of them are pretty much
"dead" cards.
That's my opinion. The bottom line- don't substitute Challenge! for Bill
in
a Wiggly. It's not really a bad card, but it's no replacement for Bill.
Wiggly should have enough card drawing to get the Basics it needs without
filling your opponent's bench too.
