Lugia
VS. Mewtwo is brought to you by the "Newest
Smile"! :-@ (I can curl my tongue!)
Sports Man: Hey
everyone. I'm here with the Whether Man to bring you the update on this
exclusive fight!
Mewtwo seems to be at a disadvantage here. Though he seems to be able to dodge
most of Lugia's attacks, if one of those blows connects, it's all over.
Mewtwo's only attack left, Metronome, signals that he's at the end of his
rope. What do you think, Whether?
Whether Man: Yeah,
Mewtwo never liked that attack. If he's using it, he's gotta be desperate. So
far, the metronome has yielded attacks that are useless at this point. He's
almost out of it, that's for sure. And since he doesn't have any strength left
to use Recover, his days are numbered.
Okay, and now the follow-up on my article. Alright? I made a mistake. All you
cheap shots out there got your laughs. I made my first mistake. I'm human!
(Despite popular belief) People make mistakes! Maybe the guys e-mailing me
have never made one, (thus implying that...) but I doubt it. Now that we all
had a laugh at my expense, let's get serious. First off, stop e-mailing me.
Second, and I know this is risky to say, but Lugia's still not an overly good
card.
Now that we got the "Or instead of And" thing, let's look back at
the card. Let's start at the most apparent weakness: Energy Cost. Lugia's 3
energy count hurts him deeply. Plus, each of the energies is of different
type. This means you definitly need at least 3 turns to power him up, AND if
you can't get one energy color, you can't use the attack PERIOD. This isn't a
major problem on paper, but anyone who has played a multi-color deck will know
that sometimes that one color never comes. And I won't even get into the
discarding thing.
Now,
I've found that when we grade a card, it's hard to take Energy Removal into
account, but you still have to acknowkedge that it exists. Lugia needs 3
energy to power-up. That energy can easily be denied by ER. Disruption is VERY
powerful against cards like Lugia, because without the necessary energy count
they're toast. 90 HP is a lot, don't get me wrong, but decks that have been
based on speed can tear down Lugia. Any deck with Electabuzz, Pr Mewtwo and
ER, is probably Lugia's worst nightmare.
Plus, there are many cards that hose Lugia. We have Bellsprout Temple at the
top of the list, because -30 on every colorless attack just plain kills Lugia.
Also, we have Promo Mewtwo and Mime, the two main Psy guys. Also, there's
Krinriki, an excellent Psychic pokemon that has a 20 damage attack (40 damage
with weakness) that might confuse, and an Agility attack for 2 colorless. And
of course there's Yadoking. Those guys will tear Lugia apart.
Sports Man: I bet
Mewtwo wishes they were backing him up. This greuling stalemate is still on.
How much longer can this last? It's too....
(Lugia's blast connects)
UNBELIEVABLE! Mewtwo's hit!
This could be over. Mewtwo has survived, but he's no better off than an
avalanche survivor. This metronome attack might be his last. Here it comes...
(Mewtwo uses Horn Drill)
WHAT?!
Whether Man: What
the...
Sports Man: You're
joking. This is... No way! They're both down. You're kidding! That's so cheap!
Mewtwo used an Instant-Death attack. That's cheap! Lugia can't be down.
Whether Man: This is
cheap, but unfortunatly, they're both down.
Sports Man: No. After
all that Lugia should at least get the win. After all that, we shouldn't have
to sit through a round two.
Whether Man: As it
turns out, Mewtwo got lucky. I guess when they both fully recover we may need
a rematch.
Sports Man: That guy...
Can't he just lose for once? He lost. The tie means nothing! He lost!
Whether Man: No, it
still counts as a tie. Actually, I'm glad it was a tie. Those guys are buds,
it doesn't really matter who wins...
Okay, so maybe it does matter. Well, when we
come back, the Psychic/Ghost Squadron faces the Elites of the Dark type. Who
will win? Tune in to find out. In the meantime, we're signing off...
