Hi Pojo,
Today I will post my opinion on the Charizard vs. Ninetales
debate.
I do not use a numerical rating system for cards usually, as they can be used
in different decks for different uses. That's how it is with Charizard and
Ninetales--you won't find them in the same type of deck usually. They are
both very good cards, but only in certain situations.
First, and most obvious, its HP are extremely high.
Charizard is
essentially colorless, so he's usable in any deck. His attack is also very
damaging, and the only cards it can't defeat so far are another Charizard, a
Chansey, and Giovanni's Nidoking. Charizard's Pokémon Power is very
useful,
and what makes it colorless. There's a bit of a problem here, as it
only
has one attack, and a discard cost. If you only use Double Colorless energies
to power Fire Spin, it says discard two energy cards. That means throw
away
two Double colorless, not one. This makes it a bit more difficult to use.
Resistance to fighting is nice, but the retreat is high. Also, being stage
two makes it slower to get out in the beginning. If you're using it in a deck
with no Fire energy, then watch out for Muk, as you'll be stuck with a
Charizard loaded with a bunch of useless energy. Mr. Mime ruins you, too. I'm
not bashing Charizard at all, just pointing out its weaknesses. It's a great
card that works well in a colorless deck, or in a fire deck if you have to.
Ninetales, although not as versatile in any deck (you need
Fire energy to
use it to its full potential), is very strong. Its attack does more damage
over two rounds than Charizard, because it only has a 1 discard cost but
slightly lower damage. 160 damage over two turns is excellent. Ninetales
doesn't have to worry about Muk and Mr. Mime as much, as there is no Pokémon
Power to disable with Toxic Gas, and Lure is a great way to move Mr. Mime out
of the way for a Pokémon with no method of preventing the damage. Lure is
simply deadly--a built-in gust of wind. Its HP are good for a Stage 1, but
Charizard overshadows Ninetales in this aspect. Ninetales has no resistance,
but the 1 retreat cost for such a killer Pokémon is excellent. Only use it in
an all fire deck, though.
Overall, these two cards are just about equal. Ninetales
works best in
fire, Charizard works well in everything. I prefer Ninetales, howerver,
because of its low retreat, fast evolution, and Lure attack. Either one is
fine, so check them both out.
