A note to Pojo: I know this is not
strictly about single card strategy, but I thought this card should be
discussed by at least one person. This message has to do with the poll
about "Misty's Tears."
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear PojoReaders and Pokemanics,
There is one card in the Japanese set that is called Misty's
Tears. It is also known as the "naked misty" card. It
shows a picture of Misty stretching her arm out towards a Staryu, and Misty is
shilouetted in the picture. She looks like she is naked. Since
most of the cards that are in Japan are just copied directly to the American
version cards (excluding Team Rocket Grimer, Dark Raichu, etc.), this card
brought up some debates whether if Wizards should copy the picture or not.
In Japan, pictures of semi-nude people are not as
"disgusting" as in America. Semi-nudity in cartoons (or the
shilouette of a body) is handled in a more mature fashion. It is just
the style of Japanese culture (and certain other Asian cultures).
Japanese people aren't perverts for making a card that looks like this.
There's nothing wrong with it. It's perfectly fine... at least to them,
it's fine.
However, a card like this would not be acceptable in America.
It would probably bring an outrage among parents, and a boycott of some sort
would probably start. Parents would probably not allow their kids to buy
any pokemon cards. Pokemon TCG playing would probably become notorious.
Pokemon cards would also be banned in almost any location. Rumors would
spread.
When Pokemon first came out, my mom personally didn't like it.
She thought that it was "evil" of some sort, and that it should be
avoided. I was not allowed to collect the cards until a long time.
She doesn't care as much anymore, but if she saw the Misty's tears card,
She would probably flip out. She'll end up forcing me to throw all my
cards away. I'm sure that most parents let them play the TCG game
freely, but I know that most parents would probably react the same way that my
mom would react when seeing the Misty's Tears card.
I thought that most people would think about that, but
surprisingly 1166 people (on May 10) said that they wanted the card to stay
the same, while only 341 people said that Wizards should change the card.
Where's the the responsibility? Would you want your parents to see a
picture of some "naked" picture of a girl on a card? I'm
pretty sure that most parents would get pretty angry. We, as responsible
pokemon TCG players, shouldn't want a card like this. Pokemon's
reputation already has scratches on it, and if we want a card with a picture
of "Misty's Tears," then we will form dents in the reputation of
Pokemon. Stop being perverted and get some sense into your heads!
We want adults to think of Pokemon as a fun game, not some gross, disgusting
trash.
