*ding ding!*
SATOSHI: Okay, now why is everyone getting all mad at the Sleep! card from
Team Rocket? When are these people going to learn that Wizards will never
make a truly "useless" card??!! That would be VERY stupid on their
part. In
fact, let's take a look at some other trainer cards that were once called
"useless"
-Imposter Professor Oak(stall deck's best friend)
-Lass(do I need to go into detail?)
Hmm...all I can think of at the moment. Now, back to Sleep!...it auctually
has one good strategy. BTW, it's main use is NOT to hopefully stall for
another turn. Here's how it should be played:
*Prepare For Battle Simulation Mode!!*
Ghost Deck(you) VS. Sponge(opponent)
SATOSHI: Okay, say you've got a ghost deck that you've been tinkering with.
In this round of the game, you find yourself with a base Haunter(hold back
all laughing, please)with two psychic energies versus your opponent's movie
Mewtwo. At the moment, the Mewtwo is awake. However, if all goes according
to plan, he won't be awake for long, much less active. Okay, your turn, you
draw a Sleep! from your deck. 'Great!' you think! 'I'm sunk!' Not so. You
stil have a chance. You use Sleep!, and with a lucky coin flip, put Mewtwo
to sleep. Now, Dream Eater for 100 damage. Mewtwo is out.
*End Battle Simulation Mode*
SATOSHI: And there you have it. A good use for both base Haunter and Sleep!.
And, combined with TR Drowzee's pokemon power, a very interresting strategy
indeed. True, it requires a coin flip, but then again, why did(do) people
like Farfetch'd? Because of a possible first turn 30 damage(COIN FLIP). And
why is the Venusaur/Executor startegy still in use? Because of possible
major damage via Executor(COIN FLIP). See? Thunderpunch and Electabuzz are
popular because of a possible second turn 40 damage(COIN FLIP). And let's
not forget the entire line of status effect decks(COIN FLIPS GALORE!!)....
While this game can be a major strategy user, at least a thrid of the game
relies on luck. Be it drawing a needed evolution or even drawing the cards
necessary to find it, no one can say that the Pokemon TCG is not at least a
small fraction luck.
*whew* Well, I guess I'm done. STAY OFF OF SLEEP!'S BACK!! Good Luck and
Happ Gaming!!
