SATOSHI: Welcome to the Poke-Court. Today's case, the Pokemon World vs. Base
Set Haunter. Will the defndant please rise?
BASE HAUNTER: Haunt!! Haunter!! Haunt Haunt Haunt!!
SATOSHI: <<opens file folder>>Ah, yes. I'm sure we all remember that
people
have deemed Base Haunter too risky, due to the conditions of his Dream Eater
attack. Well, let's, for once, look at his good sides, shall we?
BASE HAUNTER: <<claps hands>> Haunt!! Haunter!!
SATOSHI: Hmm...stage one status is not bad at all; in fact, there are very
few basic pokemon that can stand on their own, most of which being from the
Haymaker category. Which brings me to the next topic. Resistance. Fighting
resistance is a very nice accessory on many Pokemon. This makes the famous
Hitmonchan able to deal only 10 damage each turn FOR TWO FIGHTING AND ONE
COLORLESS ENERGY. 60 hp...not bad for his stage and for his energy costs.
People are caught up in basic Pokemon that have oddles of hp, but fail to
realize that they need fairly high energy amounts to do anything
decent(stall decks excluded). Which brings me to another topic: attack cost.
When you look beyond the circumstances of Dream Eater, it becomes a 50
damage attack for two Psychic Energy. Pretty nice. Still, I can hear many
people screaming at their computer screens that the Defending Pokemon must
be alseep to do any damage with our Basic friend here. Well, this is where
strategy comes in. Take the cards Sleep! and the new Rocket Drowzee, mix
them in with FOSSIL Gastly and Base Haunter, add a few hard hitting pokes,
and what do you get? Something like this:
21 Psychic Energy
2 Full Heal Energy
3 Mewtwo(MP)
4 Gastly(f)
3 Haunter(b)
4 Psyduck(TR)
3 Golduck(TR)
3 Drowzee(TR)
4 Bill
3 Professor Oak
4 Sleep!
2 Computer Search
2 Itemfinder
2 Switch
SATOSHI: Well, you may see something like this in my Garage. The person that
made that deck should be celebrated for not listening to everyone else's
opinion, but going out on his/her own and making a deck much like the one
above. We have a good 11 ways to get the Defending Pokemon asleep. Haunter's
Hypnosis, Drowzee's pokemon power, Sleep!, and the Itemfinder to retrieve at
most two Sleep! for a second use. Now, people are screaming that Haunter may
be put to sleep with Long Distance Hypnosis...well, don't evolve it until
you succeed in putting the Defending Pokemon to sleep!! Evolution curses all
effects, remember?
See? A good way to use Base Haunter...try it out, even if it is at the weak
ol' Pokemon League.
SATOSHI: Well, there you have it. Next time, I'll be back with another
disregarded card. Until then, Good Luck and Happy Gaming!!
BASE HAUNTER: Haunt!! Haunter!!
