I am not using a point system as I feel that having certain attributes (no
Magikarp needed) are worth more that just having better HP. I am looking at
what is better in a deck (mine is grass/water). I am using a lot of metagame
references (everyone where I live uses Haymaker and Raindance with the
occasional Potpourri.
Articuno
He has several advantages and disadvantages over Gyarados. They are:
-No Magikarp required! Yeah! This is really important as most players kill
the Magikarp right after being benched.
-Freeze dry is better than Bubblebeam! We all like paralysis but more energy
and a gamble make Bubblebeam just not worth it.
-Blizzard is something that I can't decide if I like or dislike. It takes
more energy than Dragon Rage but you can hit every one of your opponents
benched Pokemon. I got all 6 prizes once when my foe retreated his weakened
Pokemon and blizzard crushed them in 2 turns. Or you will hit every one of
YOUR benched Pokemon! Very risky.
~No weakness and fighting resistance is good. One less retreat cost than
Gyarados but that doesn't matter.
-30 less HP but Articuno is a basic.
Gyarados
Gyarados has his own great and lousy moments. They are:
-Magikarp! This is the BIGGEST problem with Gyarados! I need to stress this
over and over!
-Dragon Rage is better than Blizzard (maybe) because it needs less energy and
doesn't have any drawbacks to you.
-Bubblebeam is more expensive and only does 10 more damage than Freeze Dry.
-Gyarados has 100 HP, a resistance to fighting, weakness to grass, and a high
retreat cost but its only 1 more than Articunos.
Final Conclusion
Gyarados has more strong points than Articuno, but that darn Magikarp is bad
and a MAJOR weakness. I prefer Articuno, mainly due to the Magikarp issue. If
you can stand the chance of losing Magikarp very quickly, then take Gyarados.
He has the better stuff (not counting the Freeze Dry, Bubblebeam issue).
