Pokemon Examination: Erica's
Clefable
by Sidewinder (April

Erica's Clefable is another Pokemon
from the Gym Expansion. He looks interesting, and I think he
has potential, so why not do an
examination.
The translations...
Erica's Clefairy

Evolution card, and attach to one of your own Pokemon.
Shuffle your deck afterward.

No. 035 (Uncommon)
Erica's Clefable
Type: Stage 1 Colorless Pokemon (Evolves from Erica's Clefairy)
LV.35 HP 70
C: Fairy's Miracle
Effect: Flip a coin. If heads, choose as many of your
own Pokemon as you wish, and return them and all cards
attached to them to your hand.
CCC: Moon Impact: 30
Retreat: CC
Weakness: F
Resistance: P (Damage -30)
No. 36 (Rare Hologram)
Strategy:
Erica's Clefairy is a decent Pokemon
and can usually stay alive long enough to evolve to Erica's
Clefable. Moon Power (funny,
it's not a power...) can let you evolve to Erica's Clefable if the flip is
heads, but unfortunetaly you have to
flip... Moon Kick is okay; it is like Jigglypuff's Pound.
I have a feeling that you might see
Erica's Clefable in some stall decks. HP is good and Fairy's
Miracle is cheap and is a Scoop Up for
as many Pokemon as you want. Unfortunetaly, it's not a
Pokemon Power, but you have to settle
for what it is, a great attack. Moon Impact is good too,
exactly like Scyther's Slash in all
aspects except for name.
Strengths:
Moon Power can evolve Clefairy into
Clefable in 1 turn! Moon Kick is good, and Clefairy can
usually stay alive long enough to
evolve. Clefable has good HP too, and Moon Impact is a strong
attack. The biggest thing about
this family, of course, is Fairy's Miracle, multiple Scoop Ups for 1
Colorless Energy! Also both
Erica's Clefairy and Clefable have resistance to Promo Mewtwo and
the rest of the Psychic Pokemon.
Weaknesses:
Moon Power is unreliable, Clefable's
retreat cost is an annoying 2; both have weakness to Fighting,
Fairy's Miracle takes up your attack
for the turn, so you can't use it and Moon Impact on the same
turn and cannot use it from the bench.
Conclusion:
As with Lt. Surge's Fearow, Erica's
Clefable isn't the best Stage 1, but again like Lt. Surge's Fearow,
is a fun Pokemon to play with.
It would be pretty fun to play against Mr. Smith's Bench Press deck
and Fairy's Miracle all the damage
away. It would be interesting to add Clefable into Stall decks,
where Stall can be taken to a whole
new level. Try it!
