Dear Pojo,
As we know there 2 Magmar, people say fossil type is better,
I'm not
saying they're wrong but, let's take a look at both sides before I begin
judging.
Base set Magmar
HP:50
(FF)Fire Punch:30
(FFC)Flamethrower:50 Discard 1 fire energy card attached to Magmar in order
to use this attack.
Weakness:Water
Resistance:none
Retreat cost:2
Wow!Let's review this first Magmar before we go onto the second one, then
we'll compare, anyway, Fire Punch is a cheap move for what it delivers and
can hurt a lot of grass Pokemon, kills Pinsir before he uses Guilotine and
knocks Magmar out, and does 30 damage to anyone eles other than grass. The
hit points are average for a basic, they are sooo many basic Pokemon with 50
hit points. Second attack, Flamethrower, as usual it is required to discard 1
fire energy to use this attack but it's always like that, fire punch and
flamethrower can rack up 80 damage!! Weakness to water is nothing new,
Hellooooo, Magmar is fire, and all fire type(besides Moltres) have weakness
against water. Resistance is nadda but the only fire type with resistance are
Charizard, and Moltres. Retreat cost, I don't like, I know using Dodrio will
help but still, I mean, is it right that a basic should have 2 for a retreat
cost, evolutions usually have 2 retreat cost. Anyway the rating for base set
Magmar is 5.3, would've been better if it weren't for the retreat cost. Now
onto Fossil Magmar...
HP:70
(F)Smokesreen:10 If your opponent tries to attack Magmar next turn
flip a
coin, if tails that attack does nothing.
(FF)Smog:20 Flip a coin, if heads the defending Pokemon is now poisoned
Weakness:Water
Resistance:Nothing
Retreat cost:2
70 hit points is better than Base set Magmar, and it has a one energy attack
that does 10 damage with a chance of your opponent's attack failing, so so
far Fossil Magmar is da bomb! Then for 2 energy you do 20, fairly decent,
with a chance of poison, weakness, resistance plus retreat cost are all the
same. I git it a 5.2, here's why Fossil Magmar is a point behind, for 2
energy it does 20, for 2 energy base set Magmar does 30, however, if poison
is succesful then you'll have 30 damage, but base set Magmar does it already.
Fossil Magmar relies a lot on chance, if you flip a tails at the right time,
you're invincible, and if you flip heads at the right time then your opponent
will suffer through poison, which has a strong effect, however, Base set
Magmar doesn't rely on chance, it does damage right away, which is what I
like, Pokemon who do damage and nothing but, or even better, Pokemon who
do
damage and gurantee, poison, confusion, paralysis or asleepness(I know
"asleepness" isn't a word) but anyway Magmar ia a decent card and it's
only
fair that you put both in your deck for a nasty combination.

everyone is against my opinions)
