I'm a big fan of poison, and think that 100%
poison attacks are some of the best in the game, but they're usually quite
expensive. However, the rules have changed. Team Rocket expansion's Oddish has
everything you could possibly want if you like poison. Just a single grass
energy and your opponent takes 10 damage. If they don't do anything about
the poison, which they often won't, you've done 20 damage in one turn for a
single grass energy. Now comes the good part. On your next turn, you use
Oddish's sleep attack, and then there's a good possibility that you can
protect Oddish while preventing retreat. Not that he needs much protection
with those relatively bulky 50hp. I realize that Oddish won't appeal to
everyone, but some of us would like to get a little more fun from this game
than putting together the Raindance deck we saw on the internet. Really, what
could be more fun than beating down your opponent with a pokemon that at first
glance doesn't even look worth the 1 grass energy than it needs? You can say
what you want, but I'll keep oddish right where he is, with my Tengelas,
Beedrills, Dark Muks, and the oh-so-powerful Koffing.
