Success in Pokémon- Is it all based on luck?
Okay, here’s something I’ve wanted to address for a long
time, the impact of luck in a game. I’m not talking
about lucky flips either. I’m talking about a different
kind of luck- Pack Luck. For those who don’t know, pack
luck is related to buying booster packs. I bring this
up because it can impact how easily you obtain good
cards, affecting your deck directly (pulling the
Venusaur ex you need) or indirectly (pulling a Blastoise
ex which you then trade for a Venusaur ex.) Therefore,
logic says that those with good pack luck should be able
to do well at building a deck, whereas those with poor
pack luck would be better off buying single cards rather
than packs.
I play both Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! and have varied luck. In the Yu-Gi-Oh game, I have horrible Pack Luck, so it took me a long time to assemble the deck I run today. However, in Pokémon, I’m a pack luck god. Seriously, I needed a few Rare Candies and Sandstorm packs were 50% off, so I grabbed 8. It was then I realized how mighty my luck truly was. Here’s a look at some of the noteworthy cards I pulled. 8 Reverse Holos:
Lotad 8 Rares:
2 Umbreon Noteworthy Commons:
2 Dunsparce 2 Pokémon ex!
Typhlosion That’s just an example of pack luck. I’ve seen people pull 3+ ex Pokémon in Draft. So next time you go to buy one of those shiny new Deoxys packs or even an Emerald pack, stop and think, do you have decent pack luck? If not, save your money and buy single cards instead.
