Here is an Overlooked strategy using Blastoise's well
known pokemon power, Rain Dance, and Misty's
poliwhirl. If you don't know them already, here they
are:

Misty's Poliwhirl

HP: 70
Stage 1
Weakness: G
Resistance: None
Retreat: 2
Attacks:

Rapids - 1W - 20: if the defending pokemon has any
energy cards attached to it, flip a coin. If heads,
choose 1 of them and discard it.

Water Punch - 3 - 30+: flip a number of coins equal to
the W energy attached to Misty's Poliwhirl. This
attack does 30 damage + 10 damage for each heads

Blastoise:

HP: 100
Stage 2
Weakness: L
Resistance: None
Retreat: 3
Attacks:

Pokemon power: Rain Dance: As often as you like
durring your turn you may attach 1 W energy to one of
your W pokemon

Hydro Pump - WWW - 40+: Does 40 Damage + 10 more
damage for each W energy attached to Blastoise but not
for the cost of this attack. Extra W Energy after the
2nd doesn't count.

Now, Blastoise is one of the all - time best pokemon
there is, because it lets you LEGALY break one of the
rules of the game: energy attachment.

Here is how the combo works:

get blastoisse on the bench and Misty's poliwhirl as
your active. Use Rain dance to put as mant W energy on
Poliwhirl and use water punch, since the W energy can
count as the attack cost AND you can put several extra
W energy on him and count. So, for example, if you
attach 4 W energy on to Poliwhirl, you can do a
maximum  of 70 DAMAGE!(30 + 4 heads [40 damage] = 70)
that's pretty good for a stage 1 with no drawbacks
either! the more energy the better! Get the picture?
