Hello everyone!  Mystix20 here.  Me and my mew,
Spiffydix will be discussing all of the trainers from
the brand new gym heroes set.  Well, let's go!

Spiffydix, show us Blaine's Quiz #1

Spiffydix<Sure thing mystix20!
Name: Blaine's Quiz #1
Effect: Put a Basic Pokemon or Evolution card from
your hand face down in front of you and tell your
opponent its name.  Your opponent guesses the length
of that Pokemon.  Flip the card over.  If your
opponent guessed right, he or she draws 2 cards.  If
your opponent guessed wrong, you draw 2 cards.  Either
way, return the card to your hand. >

This card is really a fancy bill.  Your opponent
guesses the LENGTH(????!!!!) of a pokemon.  NO
opponent  is going to know that if they are sane.  All
in all, bill is way better.  playing this tells your
opponent a card you have in your hand, tells your
opponent a pokemon you have in your hand, and u need a
pokemon to play this.  BILL IS BETTER! on to the next
card.  Spiffydix, please show us the next one.

Spiffydix<Name: The Rocket's Trap
Effect: Flip a coin.  If heads, you may randomly
choose 3 cards from your opponents hand.  Shuffle
those cards back into their deck.>

This card is BROKEN!!!!  The ability to choose 3 cards
from your opponents hand and remove them is
incredible!  Combined with Impostor Professor Oak's
Revenge and Rocket's Sneak Attack, you can remove your
opponents hand. Hopefully Wizards will ban this card.
Well enough on this one, on to the next.

Spiffydix<Name: Brock
Effect: Remove 1 damage counter from each of your
pokemon that has one.>

This card is okay.  Removing a damage counter from
each of your pokemon counters the effect of Sabrina's
Gengar's Pain Amplifier attack.  Other than that, I
don't see much purpose of this card.

Spiffydix< And here's the next card...
Name: Charity
Effect: Attach Charity to your Active Pokemon.  Unless
that Pokemon gets Knocked Out, return Charity to your
hand at the end of your turn. If that Pokemon attacks
and does damage to the Defending Pokemon, you may
reduce that damage by any amount (rounded to the
nearest 10). >

This card is THE mime killer.  If mimes are the
metagame in your area, include one of these in your
deck.  The ability to reuse it over and over make it
broken, but its effect is only good on mime. Next
card, Spiffydix.

Spiffydix<Name: Erika
Effect: You may draw three cards, then your opponent
may draw three cards.>

This card is a better Computer Error.  This card goes
in stall decks, and none other.  With stall, you draw
none, and your opponent, as long as they are not
playing stall also, will draw 3 cards.  The reason
this is better than computer Error is your turn
doesn't end.

Spiffydix< Next card.
Name: Lt. Surge
Effect: You can play this card only if you have at
least 1 Basic Pokemon card in your hand.  Put a Basic
Pokemon card from your hand into play as your Active
Pokemon.  Put your old Active Pokemon onto your Bench.
(You can't play this card if your Bench is full.)>

This card rivals scoop up.  Scoop up is much better in
a deck with all basics, unless you don't want to lose
your energy.  This card can save an evolved pokemon's
butt by retreating it for free, and sending out a
fresh pokemon from your hand that your opponent wasn't
expecting.  When playing a basic and evolution deck,
such as Wigglytuff, run 3/4 Scoops and 1/2 Lt. Surge

Spiffydix< Here comes the next card...
Name: Misty
Effect: Discard 2 of the other cards in your hand in
order to play this card.  If this turn's attack does
damage to the Defending Pokemon (after applying
Weakness and Resistance), and if the attacking Pokemon
has Misty in its name, the attack does 20 more damage
to the Defending Pokemon.>

This card is a waste of paper.  Your discarding three
cards(Misty and 2 others) to do 20 extra damage.  And
this card only works with Misty Pokemon.  Use 2
pluspowers instead.  Had this card been a stadium, it
might have been useful.  But as it is not, it stinks
more than a skunk. Next card, spiffydix.

Spiffydix<Sure thing
Name:No Removal Gym
Effect: Stadium Stuff(I will say this for every
stadium card I cover.  this pertains to the this card
stays in play, blah blah blah...)
Whenever a player plays an Energy Removal or Super ER,
that player discards 2 other cards also.>

This card is GOOD!  If you play a low energy deck,
this is the card for you.  Make sure you use at least
3, if not 4.  This is because a Denial deck will play
another stadium so this stadium is discarded.  A must
for low nrg decks.

Spiffydix< And here's the next card.
Name:The Rocket's Training Gym
Effect: Stadium Stuff
Each player pays 1 Colorless nrg more to retreat their
active pokemon.>

This may have an impact on the game, but not much,
IMHO.  This card will be great to counter scyther.  It
will also go well in Dark Muk/Dark Dugtrio decks.
Other than that, not much playability for this card.
Next card, spiffydix.

Spiffydix<Name:Blaines Last Resort
Effect: You can't play this card if you have any other
cards in your hand other than Blaine's Last Resort.
Show your hand to your opponent, then draw 5 cards.>

Professor Oak is a better card than this.  You can
only play BLR if its the only card in your hand.  Oak
you can use anytime, and u get 7 cards, not 5. Use
Oak, not BLR. Next Card, SD.

Spiffydix<Name:Brock's Training Method
Effect: You may search your deck for a pokemon with
Brock in its name.  Show it to your opponent, then put
it in your hand.>

This is the same card as The Boss' Way, but it
pertains to Brock Pokemon.  A good card for Brock
decks.

Spiffydix< Next card.
Name:Celadon City Gym
Effect:Stadium Stuff
During each player's turn, that player may choose to
discard an Energy card attached to 1 of his or her
Pokemon with Erika in its name.  If that player does
so, that Pokemon is no longer Asleep, Confused,
Paralyzed or Poisoned.>

A good card for Erika decks.  As quite a few Erika
pokemon do a status effect to themself, this works to
heal them.  Full heal would be better as a one-time
use , however.

Spiffydix<Name:Cerulean City Gym
Effect: Stadium Stuff
Each player plays one less colorless nrg to retreat a
pokemon with misty in its name.>

A good card for Misty decks.  Beneficial to them.  No
other deck can really use it other than a Misty's
gyrados/Muk deck.

Spiffydix<Name:Erika's Maids
Effect: Trade 2 of the other cards in your hand for up
to 2 Basic Pokemon and/or Evolution cards with Erika
in their names from your deck. Show those cards to
your opponent, then put them into your hand. Shuffle
your deck afterward.

An okay card for Erika decks.  A double Pokemon
trader.   On to the next card.

Spiffydix<Name:Erika's Perfume
Effect: Look at your opponent's hand.  If they have
any  basic pokemon, you may choose any number of them
and put them on your opponent's bench(as long as
there's room).>

A good card for Dark Hypno decks, and none other.
NEVER, I repeat NEVER use this card against Wigglytuff
Decks.  It just helps them!

Spiffydix<Next card.
Name: Good Manners
Effect: In order to play this card, you can't have any
Basic Pokemon cards in your hand.  Show your hand to
your opponent, then search your deck for a Basic
Pokemon card, show it to your opponent, and put
it into your hand.  Shuffle your deck afterward.>

A pokeball without the flip.  However, you show your
opponent your hand.  NOT a good card.

Spiffydix<Name: Lt. Surge's Treaty
Effect: Your opponent chooses 1 of the following:
everyone chooses 1 of his or her own Prizes and puts
it into his or her hand, or you draw a card.

A great card.  Either you can draw a prize or you draw
a card?  Its a win win situation.  This card goes into
my deck.

Spiffydix<Name: Minion of Team Rocket
Effect: Flip 2 coins.  If both of them are heads,
choose 1 of your opponent's Benched Pokemon and return
it and all cards attached to it to his or her hand.
If 1 or both of them are tails, your turn ends
immediately (you can't attack this turn).>

A bad card.  There's a 25% chance of this going
through.  For all you math-stupid people, that's a 75,
yes 75% chance of failure.  And for what.  To return
one of your opponents benched pokemon to their hand.
It still gives them the cards that they need unless
you are using it against a breedered Blastoise or
Beedrill.  Not a good card.

Spiffydix<Name: Misty's Wrath
Effect: Look at the top 7 cards of your deck.  Choose
2 and put them in your hand.  Discard the rest>

OAK IS BETTER.  Nuff' said.

Spiffydix<Name:Pewter City Gym
Effect: Stadium Stuff
Don't apply resistances to any attacks made by pokemon
with Brock in their names.

A MUST  for Brock decks.  Not only does it remove
fighting resistance, but leaf resistance with Brock's
Zubat.  (Wait a second, I don't think there is a
pokemon with leaf resistance, but I may be wrong)

Spiffydix<Name:Recall
Effect: For this turn only, your active pokemon may
use attacks from a lower level(you still have to pay
for it's cost).>

A mime killer for evolved pokemon that have babys,
basics, or Stage 1's that can kill mime.  U can also
use it for not doing overkill(IE. A Base Charizard
uses Slash from its Charmeleon Stage to kill a Promo
Eevee.) A great card for evolved pokemon that can
overkill.

Spiffydix<Name: Sabrina's ESP
Effect: Attach Sabrina's ESP to 1 of your Pokemon with
Sabrina in its name.  At the end of your turn, discard
Sabrina's ESP.  If that Pokemon uses an attack that
involves flipping coins, Sabrina's ESP lets you
re-flip those coins once.  If you do, re-flip all the
coins.>

I'm not really sure how good this card really is.
It's effect is iffy, and you might do less damage than
before.  You PROBABLY don't need this in a deck with a
Sabrina Pokemon that flips coins.

Spiffydix<Name: Secret Mission
Effect: Look at your opponent's hand.  Then, you may
discard as many other cards as you want from your hand
and draw that many cards.>

Rivals the effect of Rocket's Sneak Attack.  Looking
at your opponent's hand is good enough.  Then you can
discard any number of cards trying to get the card
that will help you against whatever your opponent has
in their hand.  Watch for an article by me about which
is better, RSA or Secret Mission.

Spiffydix<Name: Tickling Machine
Effect: Flip a coin.  If heads, your opponent sets
aside all the cards in his or her hand face down.
Nobody may look at those cards.  At the end of your
opponent's next turn, your opponent puts those cards
back into his or her hand.  If tails, your turn ends
immediately (you can't attack this turn).>

This card I don't really understand.  Does your
opponent not get to use those cards during his or her
next turn.  I'll ask the MT at the next Thursday
Pokechat. Until then, I make no comment on this card.

Spiffydix<Name: Vermilion City Gym
Effect: Stadium Stuff
Whenever a player attacks with a Pokemon with Lt.
Surge in its name, he or she may flip a coin.  If
heads, and if that Pokemon's attack does damage to the
Defending Pokemon (after applying Weakness and
Resistance), that attack does 10 more damage to the
Defending Pokemon.  If tails, the attacking Pokemon
does 10 damage to itself in addition to whatever its
attack usually does.>

A risky card.  With most Surge pokemon electric types,
and electric types have a reputation of hurting
themselves, this card becomes very risky.  Play it on
a turn if you can win the game that turn, but need 10
more damage, and have used up all of your pluspowers.
Use pluspower instead in most cases.

Spiffydix<Name:Blaine's Gamble
Effect: Discard any number of cards from your hand,
then flip a coin.  If heads, draw twice the number of
cards.>

This card is not worth its place in any deck.  There
is too much of a risk discarding 4 or 5 cards.
Discarding less than that just isn't worth it.  Wait,
I just thought of a deck that could benefit from this:
Sponge.  First turn discard 2 psy energy, have mewtwo
active with one psy, and hope for heads.  Either way,
its a win win situation.  You get 2 psy energy into
the discard pile for MP Mewtwo to absorb, and if u get
a heads, it's like a double bill.  Good in only one
deck.  All other decks use it as toilet paper.

Spiffydix<Next card.
Name: Energy Flow
Effect: For each of your pokemon, you may return any
amount of energy attached to them to your hand.>

I see this card in two decks.  One, a deck that uses
MP Mewtwo to soak up energy than put it into your
hand(previously people mr. Fujied the mewtwo).  The
other deck that can benefit from this card is
Raindance.  Your Blastoise is out and has been hit for
80 damage from an Electabuzz.  He has 5 energy on him.
Not wanting to lose any of that energy.  You energy
flow him of all his energy, and are about to sacrifice
him.  But then you see a pokemon center in your hand!
You center him of all damage and put down that energy
again, and screw your opponent up.  Nuff' talkin',
let's get to the next card.

Spiffydix<Name: Misty's Duel
Effect: You and your opponent play a game of
Rock-Paper-Scissors.  The winner shuffles his or her
hand into their deck and draw a new hand of 5 cards.
(If either of you don't know how to play
Rock-Paper-Scissors, flip a coin)>

This card is too risky for  a semi-okay effect.  This
could benefit your opponent, if they win.  Only deck I
can see this in is stall.  When you have a large hand
and they a less than 5 hand, you play this card.  It's
a win win situation.  Either your deck grows, or
theirs diminishes.  Now let's see the card that's
going to be played by everyone going against a
Wiggly(Unless you're using Dark Hypno)

Spiffydix<Name: Narrow Gym
Effect: Stadium Stuff
No player may have more than 4 Pokemon on his or her
Bench.  When this card is played, if a player has 5
Pokemon on his or her Bench, that player chooses 1 of
them and returns it and all cards attached to it to
his or her hand.  (If both players have to return a
Pokemon, your opponent returns a Pokemon first.)>

This card is great against Wiggly decks!!! You can
bring their Wiggly down from doing 60 dmg, to doing
50, only 10 more than most haymaker pokemon.  A great
card.  This stadium should probably go into every deck
that CAN'T benefit from any other stadium.  It is a
great metagame card, and you can use it if someone has
played a stadium that hurts your deck.(IE, you use a
denial deck, and your opponent just played No Removal
Gym.  You play Narrow gym to stop the effects of no
removal gym)

Spiffydix<Onto the next card.
Name: Sabrina's Gaze
Effect: Each player shuffles his hand into his or her
deck and draws a new hand of the name number of
cards.>

Another risky card, but a good one.  If you get a bad
hand with oak or at the start of the game, u can use
this to help you.  You can also use it after you saw
you opponents hand with a RSA or Secret Mission, and
saw that they got a "God" hand, making them shuffle in
their "God" hand. An iffy card.  Only the most
advanced players should use it.  And now onto the last
trainer in the set.

Spiffydix<Does that mean we can go to burger king
afterwards and get a kids meal?>

Oh be quiet. First show us the card.

Spiffydix<Fine, but then we get to go to Baskin
Robbins afterwards.
Name: Trash Exchange
Effect: Count the number of cards in your discard pile
and shuffle them into your deck.  Then discard that
many cards from the top of your deck. >

This card is a pretty good card.  If you have used up
all of a certain trainer in your deck, you can use
this card, and hope to get that card you need in the
next couple turns.  All in all, this is probably the
best non-stadium card that can go into just about
every deck.  (If u wanted to know, Narrow Gym is
probably the best stadium that can go into every deck)

Well, we've covered every trainer in the Gym Heroes
Set.  Man, there are a lot!  I hope this benefited
anyone who read this article.  Until then, Me and my
Mew are going to Burger King!!!!

Spiffydix<YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!>
