Hey Pojo fans! I wanted to share some of my tips with you regarding
deck building for haymaker's.
First off is that card.. Bill.
In my area, Bill has become somewhat forgotten. By no means am I going
to bash this VERY useful card, but with the emergance of Nightly Garbage
Run, a.k.a (NGR), I have noticed and discovered that having 3-4 Oak's
and 3-4 comp Searches with a couple NGR's and perhaps some Item Finder's
is all you really will ever need. Think about it. You can Oak 3
times
in 1 game and play 2 NGR's with the overall cost in cards from your deck
at nearly just 2 Oak's. Having 4 Oak's and Comp searches, the ratio
of
getting one is just over 1 for every 7 cards. That's nearly 1 per EVERY
starting hand! Furthermore, it REALLY sucks when you have an Oak and a
Bill in your hand, use Bill and get ANOTHER Oak! What a waste!
Since
most decks already use Oak and Comp Search, try going with at least
three of each, lose the Bill's and put in some other useful trainer's.
For Psychic Haymaker's
I have read a number of killer deck reports and few realize the
potential of Fossil Gastly. A pokemon with fighting resitance, NO
weakness, a quick attack for 10 damage and possible paralysis.
Furthermore can scoop-up DCE's from the discard. He makes a WICKED
Psychic haymaker pokemon! Most consider using 3-4 scyther's. I
prefer
to use two of each. I get 4 pokemon with retreat of zero and Fossil
Gastly I prefer to start with. Lastly, he makes an ulmitate Mr. Mime
killer! I have seen too many decks with Promo mewtwo, Scyther as their
primary pokemon. Hey I use these pokemon too. They are up in my top
five pokemon list, but they do DIDDLY against Mr. Mime! Gastly takes
care of Mime in a Jiffy! Think about Gastly when making a
psychic
Haymaker.
Switch!
I can't believe how many people skip this card in their decks. I
personally use 3 of them. Switch is amazing! I think that many
people
use a number of scoop-ups to get by effects. Well how good is a
scoop-up when you are laying a Rock-like "Smack Down" with a fully
pumped pokemon with little to no damage sustained, then get stopped by a
wimpy little pokemon like Magnamite or Abra and are paralysed for three
consecutive turns. Hey, the day I was effectively smokescreened by a
lowly Horsey for EIGHT consecutive turns was the LAST day ANY of my
decks went without Switch. It was the last day I used that coin too.
Not only does it act like full heal in conjunction with a zero retreat
pokemon (like Scyther or gastly) on your bench, but it also saves me a
fair amount of energy in not having to retreat a pokemon with
significant retreat costs. Haymaker's rely on speed and skill, not
luck. Don't let's your opponent's flips dictate the game! Switch
elimanates there successful effects! Let the "Smack Down"
continue!
Lastly... Pokedex!
I NEVER see this card being played! Personally I don't play with it
either, but it has some real plus sides. When the energy removal
prohibition gym card comes out, I may try this tactic.
Pokedex + Lass + Oak/Compsearch.
If you play with 2-4 pokedex, 4 lass, 4 Oak and 4 Comp search, you can
literally screw your opponent from the get-go. Think about it! You
can
play pokedex hoping to find an Oak or compsearch, possibly even an Item
finder. If ANY of these cards is in the top five, then place it on
top. Next, use your trainer's up then LASS! Next round you pick up
Oak
or comp search. and before long there are trainer cards back in YOUR
hand while your opponent is scrambling for his. Granted you will need
both Lass and Pokedex to pull this off pretty much at the same time but
with 4 of each or comp serching for the missing trainer can be done more
than not. Using Lass by itself screws you as well sometimes. Actually
sometimes YOU get screwed more. Using Team Rocket Sneak Attack is
another decent way, but I find that it isn't as crippling. Hey, if you
only have one Team rocket sneak attack and your opponent has 1 Oak, 1
Comp search and 1 Energy removal...what do you remove back to his deck?
Anyways, that is about it. You can e-mail me and tell me what you
think.
