Number One?

By Khapoera

What does it take to be number one?

Two is not a winner

And 3 nobody remembers

What does it take to be number one?

Nelly, Number One

This part of the song is from Nelly. He says that two isn’t a winner, and that 3rd isn’t remembered. Are they? Well, in my opinion, they are winners, and they are remembered. In the Pokémon TCG, many people are quitting due to being the “top notch” at Pokémon Leagues. Not everyone is quitting because of this, but since many people are complaining about the environment CONSTANTLY, I decided to make an article. This article will go through several ideas on how to become an original deck. Eventually, you may even become an Enforcer of Deck Originality. Also, this article will include how to be a better person, while keeping yourself in the game for a long time (hopefully) to come.

People all over the Internet and the real world are ending this game sooner than they want to because “they are too good” for League. Well, first of all, the recent years of League were supposed to be fun and enjoyable. League Year 3 will be much more competitive than the previous years. It will even have Tournaments for EVERYONE (I believe) to participate in. Also, if you are way beyond the skill of anyone at your local League, play an original deck, and try to win. If you were really a great player, then you would win with an original deck.

For example, if you win against one of your worst enemies with a Erika’s Vileplume deck, then he/she will be more humiliated then by playing against your best deck, and still losing. Also, if you lose to a newer player (I don’t like using titles such as newbs or greats), then you would more likely boost his/her confidence. If that player goes off to brag, just show some maturity and say that you did lose. Better players would know how to ignore the bashing/flaming of some of the people who are bullies.

TriX

Next of all, if you are getting bored of your local playing environment, then maybe you should switch over to something called TriX. Kind of like the cereal, but you don't eat them this time. =/ TriX isn’t really a style of playing. It’s rather a deck type, in general. TriKy Pokémon are Stage 1 (or Stage 2) that can perform extraordinary feats, which is a lot of Pokémon. For example, Erika’s Weepinbell can use Sleep Poison to put the Defending Pokémon to sleep and poison at the same time. Another example is the Pokémon Koga’s Pidgeotto, which can use the attack Aerial Maneuvers, an Agility-like attack. Just focusing on those types of cards can make you feel better. Remember that feeling when Neo: Genesis came out, and you made one of your first decks with the new Pokémon? Well, TriX decks have that type of feeling. It makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. So, basically, TriX is this:

TriX: a deck in general that incorporates the playing of originality; a deck focused on a Pokémon that can do amazing feats and dazzle the opponent; leave them stunned.

Not that hard to understand, now is it? With the new Modified format, finding originality shouldn’t be tough, but to get some people playing those “awkward” decks will. I say awkward because they are only use to playing decks that win constantly and flat out broken decks. Well, if they want to stay in this game, I would highly advise making a TriX deck.

Better Player

So, you want to be a better player overall? If you have about a dozen of every “broken” card, then this part of the article is for you. *cough*SomeGuy*cough* Well, if you live in an “under-developed” area like I do, then you may want to do this: GIVE AWAY SOME OF YOUR BROKEN CARDS! *crowd gasps* Seriously though, giving away some Oaks and Computer Searches to newer players would most likely help the competitive issue I was talking about earlier. Maybe even if you could spend some time teaching the people how to win better and faster, you will not quit! *gasp* That is exactly what I will do this upcoming League. Also, since there will be season-ending Tournaments, this will increase my challenge. Another way to be a better player locally is to lose on purpose sometimes (to newer players of course) and to not let that winning streak-thing get to you. If only everyone in the world wouldn’t get so fed up after a loss…

Overall, this article was to stop people from complaining (or the “other” word) about how they are number one in their League and they can’t do anything about it, so they go on and quit. What’s up with that? That doesn’t even make sense. Hopefully, those of you, who are like the snobby, ignorant, and self-centered people I tried not to talk about, will be able to change and maybe even become a better person as a whole. I bet if you follow some of these guidelines (if you can call them that), you would stay longer, and maybe even have fun! *gasp again* Well, have fun playing with those TriX decks. =/
