Hello
everyone. Whether Man here with the whether forecast. My radar shows a 70%
chance of an article being sent to the Pojo with a 98% chance of it being
about a possible new archetype. Keep watching the Whether Channel for further
developments and more information about this article.
Whether Man here, and I just had an interesting thought. Now, you all have
probably heard of the Neo Expansion. Well, recently I was reading a spoiler of
the Neo promos when something popped out at me. I kept looking at it, and
eventually I had an idea for a new type of mono-water deck, which I call
"Water Cycle". It is based on the card Odairu, the evolved form of
Waninoko, a new water pokemon that happens to be one of the pokemon you can
start out with. Let's look at the card:
Stage 2 Water Pokemon: Odairu
HP: 120
Pokemon Power: At any time during your turn, before you attack, you may
discard a water energy from your hand. This attack can't be used if this card
is asleep, confused, or paralyzed.
WWW: Tidal Wave
10+
This attack does 10 damage plus 10 for every water energy in your discard
pile. After this attack, you may shuffle all water energy in your discard pile
into your deck.
Retreat Cost: 3 Weakness:
Grass Resistance: None
I'd say it's pretty good. His attack is almost like promo mewtwo's, only it
can deal damage. Plus, he is like a living Nighttime Garbage Collection. Now I
was thinking, why not utilize his attack to maximum power by using cards that
are powerful, but have discarding as a downside? Think of Professor Oak,
Computer Search, Itemfinder, Super Energy Removal, and others. Their downside
is discarding, right? Well, as long as you have 3 water energy on Odairu, you
can use that discarding to your advantage by burning through your deck,
disrupting your opponent's game, and/or healing your pokemon, and then attack
for 50+ damage. Oh, and remember Rain Dance's worst enemy Damage Swap? Sorry,
but the attack makes you shuffle the energy back into your deck, instantly
keeping you from decking yourself by that much. Just imagine it: a deck that's
as fast as Rain Dance, immune to decking and energy removal, helped by
Wildfire decks, fearless when it comes to losing energy, actually helped
whenever you knock out one of its own pokemon (remember what happens to the
energy attached to it), and not even thinking twice when it comes to Oaking.
Yeah, I'd say it's pretty good.
But what about its weakness to grass? Let me explain. When Neo comes out,
grass decks will have a tough time. All those tough pokemon will have a fight
on their hands. But what about Scyther? Forget it Haymakers, it's time for
steel. That's right, steel, the new type who has what no other pokemon has, a
resistance to grass. Oh, and it won't help that their energy reduces attack
damage by 10 and a new gym reduces all colorless attack damage by 30, but
that's a different article. The only downside? There is only one "good''
steel pokemon, and that's Eaamudo, a 60 HP basic that can has a 30 damage
attack which reduces your attacks by 20. (Check Edo's Pokemon site for a
translation.) However, combined with Odairu, they make a pretty unstoppable
pair. Odairu takes down the big guys, while Eaamudo acts as a bug swatter. I
might write an article on Eaamudo, because he's very difficult to damage.
So now you know where I got the name. Water evaporates, water goes back to
deck, water rains down on your opponent's parade, and the cycle continues.
Sounds like fun. I'd like to hear any comments about this idea. I am working
the deck currently, but it's hard to do since I don't know how some of
the cards will work, or how the tournament environment will change up until
that point. I also don't know how to fit Eaamudo in, because he operates on a
different type of energy that is also non-basic. (I do know, however, that
people are going to combine themes between this and Rain Dance. Oh, come on.
You know that's gonna happen) Here's what I have so far:

you all. Maybe with some help Water Cycle could become a formiddable foe.
(It's ironic. I'm The Whether Man, and the deck is Water Cycle. I just created
a joke without even knowing it.) Please respond to this article by e-mailing
to saxton@attglobal.net Until
then, this is The Whether Man signing off.
The Whether Man
PS: Not to be vain or anything, but I'd just like to point out for future
reference that this deck was invented by me. I don't want to sound arrogant, I
just want to point that out in case someone who copies this deck tries to take
credit for it or and to avoid gripping.
