Hi, PLEASE READ THIS ARTICLE IT IS LONG BUT WORTH IT!!!
This deck idea is what Storm described as a
Haybreaker, high damage (80 damage a turn specifically) to obliterate Haymakers,
or any other underpowered deck that got in its way. Maybe its just
me, but I like the idea of doing 80 damage a turn and mowing down pokemon after
pokemon. But I doubt it. Thats why I wrote this article.
I went to a LA tourney last week and got
slaughtered, but that is also beside the point, what I learned there is what
Im sharing with you. Storm (thats the tourny organizer) took me
aside and helped me with my deck and when necessary would yell quit
whining!!! No Cussing Shutup Danget etc.
but he helped me with my deck which I will post in the Killer Decks section when
I take it to a tourny. He told me about some of his deck designs like
damage swap, Bad marriage (a Nidoqueen King deck), and 2 others, but the one
that caught my attention was the haybreaker deck he described. He said it
did 80 damage a turn, but thats it. That got me thinking, then I
solved how I could build one for myself. He must have had a stroke of
genius to even consider making it, but I figured out my Haybreaker, and what are
good cards for a Haybreaker.
I think Haybreakers should be slower than
Haymakers, but not that much slower otherwise they lose the high attack
advantage. I also thought that Haybreakers cant waste that many
cards, so I dont have any oaks either.
The only color type candidates for my
Haybreaker are colored cards (youll see why in a minute). Then I
realized how many cards have resistance to fighting, so it was out. I
dont have enough energy for lightning, so I zapped that idea (though it
might make a good haybreaker color). 1st stage water and basics are too
weak and slow sayonara water. Psychic is a common resistance too
so I couldnt use it. That basically left me with Fire and Grass
Pokemons.
I thought hard for a few seconds, but
picturing Ashs head getting fried by Charizard in the cartoon show decided
it for me. Grasss basics are also kind of weak and just a few good
1st stages that do 40 or more damage. Fire on the other hand has good HP
basics with good attacks (in general) and their stage 1s are extremely powerful
when used correctly. Look at Charmeleon and compare it to Charizard,
Charmeleon only has 80 hp, but thats about it, plus it has the non
discarding attack to boot and Charizards attack would be complete, total,
uninhibited, overkill (mmmmmm overkill). I added 2 base set
Magmars for basic power and 2 Fossil Magmars for speed power. Then came
the decision for backup spot Arcanine or Ninetails? I chose Arcanine for
its HP. I almost added Wiggly, but decided not to, replacing him with
other cards.
Now for the card that speeds this deck up
with one hit TKOs, its (drum roll, loooooooooonnnnnnngg pause) PORYGON!
Yes, the mystery card is Porygon for its conversion 1 ability (thats why
colorless wasnt even a choice) he allows 1 hit TKOs against any pokemon
less than 100 HP. NOW whats up with uncommons?!?!?! (Homer like
drool) MMMMMM 160 damage a turn aghhhhh Now lets
take a peek at my deck thats still in the beta stages
Valkyries Haybreaker
3 Charmanders
2 Charmeleons
1 Arcanine
(Maybe a ninetails or another 2 arcanine)
2 Growlithes (Maybe two vulpixes
or another growlithe)
3 Porygon
2 Base Magmars
2 Fossil Magmars
4 Potion
2 Super Potion
4 Bills
3 Energy Removals
26 Fire energys
3 DBC
Look at this deck, it contains only
uncommons, but still opens that can of. Well, you know what. The only
reason I dont use the ninetails is because I want Arcanines higher HP, and
higher, non-discarding attack. Imagine what you can do when you put your
mind to it. Yes I know its only 57 cards but Im still deciding what
to do with the other 3 spaces.
I hope this article really helped, and would like to know if you would like me
to write future articles on subjects. I think I have good ideas, but I
just implement them wrong, so if you would like me to write an article on a
card, I will for ya.
