Well i wanted to post this aticle under some category that could help
people play a deck and not only make it.
Here it goes.
First of all i would like to say that Haymaker can be beaten consistently,
and any other of it's variants. However i must admit that right now it is
the most powerful deck.
In getting back to the topic. Winning in Pokemon is about 25% deck and 75%
startegy. Obviously you can't have a strategy without good cards.
Starategy number one
Anticipate.
First off be aware of the opponents deck and what they usually do.
Raindance decks, like we all know can have a Blastoise out on the 2nd turn
so be aggressive in searching for that plus power or gust of wind and don't
worry about drawing to much because the Raindance is just as likely to draw
a huge amount of cards also. (Haymakers will be covered on my next point.)
Stall decks are pretty easy to beat but it depends on what kind. Total
stalls, meaning stalls with no energy should be faced my drawing no extra
cards at all and keeping your hand at a 7 minimum. Offesive stalls should
be faced offensively. Try to attack the pokemon with energy. Also if you
ever face moltres in a stall deck Super Energy Remove or Energy Remove the
firebird's fire Energy.
Keeping your Options.
This is the most important step to becoming a true master of the game.
Always keep a high hand full of options. only play all of your cards in
hand if you have a Professr oak or to seriously stunt your opponent. I have
learned that if you empty your hand you are then in a "next turn next draw
next decesion" situation. Which leaves you basically helpless and only
capale of doing 1 thing per turn in a sense. This is extremely important so
try it out. I guarantee you it will boost your game.
Haymakers.
Haymakers find ways around resistances but find it harder to get around
weaknesses. The Most popular hay are Hitmonchan, buzz, Scyther, an Fossil
Magmar, and now even the Powerful Promo Mewtwo. I'd reccomend a a
deck with aggressive energy removal theme. Since most hay have a low
amount of energy or 3 color types. Some people say lass but that just
stalls the hays power and it is too circumstancial. A hayburner deck
more importantly should have 1 energy type. So you can most likely play an
enrgy every turn. You can now stunt haymakers with your own er's and ser's
while still having enough enery yourself. This also means that you can
withstand er's and ser's of the Haymaker. Also back to the Lass thing.
Although Haymakers depend on trainers heavily the pokemon still are
aggressive by nature even without the trainers.
Quick note on "Metagaming": Metagaming in pokemon is buildib a deck to
better combat the more powerful or common decks. For Example on Appretice
everyone has access to every card so you'll see an increased number of hay
and raindance and a lot of other holofoils then in tournament play. However
i strongly advise you not to Metagame totally on one deck such as the
haymaker. This should only be done if you believe you have the skill to
battle other decks out there as well.
Some other tips
-When you play someone who is supposedly good and they are playing say the
popular haymaker. And they have a energyless Electabuzz out and a Scyther
on the bench who is building up watch out for a very good trainer, Scoop
Up. Scoop up will not only switch his/her pokemon and remove damage
counters, but indirectly has put you a couple turns behind, because you
have spent all this time chipping away at that 70 hp. This can easily upset
an opponent.
- Almost always have a pokemon on then bench, .you'd be amazed how fast a
Wigglytuff can deal 60 damage or a Blastoise Haymakers have plus powers so
picture this scenario. your buzz starts against a hitmonchan while you have
a a charmander in hand. you shock for 10 no para. the opponent play plus
power comp seraches for another oaks gets a plus power or searches for one
or even oaks again ( he even can item find for another oak) So always be
cautious, all he/she needs is 3 to win he game.
-Try to play an energy every turn.
- Anicipate heavily
-
That's it for now
