This article is in response to Pokemon Lady's article on deck Archetypes. I
see a problem arising here, but there is a way around it. Of course we can
never stop people from copying others' decks, but we CAN do something to
change our local tournaments. If you read the DCI rules, there's a part
about Limited Pokemon Tournaments. Here's what the exact text:
Limited Tournament Basics
* The DCI sanctions one Limited format: Booster Draft.
* Tournament organizers provide 5 booster packs for the draft.
* When each booster pack is opened during a draft, the basic Energy cards
included in that pack are removed and given to the judge for later use
during deck construction. Players should not draft basic Energy cards.
* Players must construct 60-card decks using only the cards they draft and
any basic Energy cards they choose to add.
* Tournament organizers may choose to provide basic Energy cards for players
to use during the tournament. Organizers choosing to provide Energy cards
must be able to supply all players the same amount of Energy cards.
As you can see this type of tournament relies soley on the pokemon trainer's
concept of pokemon strategy and deck building. He doesn't have a choice to
simply copy anothers deck he has to make it up himself with his own mind.
This to me would be a great challenge, and it would be an equal challenge to
everyone else! Even Pokemon newbies stand a chance as they don't have the
dreaded fate of getting Scythers and Electabuzz' flinged at them. Wizards
provides the boosters for a limited tourney so it costs the store who holds
the tournament very little or no money to host them, but your tournament
judge must be a certified tournament judge. I'm not exactly sure about the
specifics of holding a limited tourney so don't start yelling at your
tourney judge if he won't host one;). But if you want to have a limited
tourney keep bugging your judge, if all the players that want to play in one
help you he'll give in. The Limitied Tournament rules can be found
