hey, I've been reading through a lot of peoples top 10 opinions and i thought
id add my 10 cents:
Top 10 Pokemon (base through gym 2)
10.Tie between Movie Promo Mewtwo and Rocket Scyther-Mewtwo is great for
KOing Chan, Ditto, and other Mewtwo's, but the popularity of Wigglytuff ,
Ditto and Chansey keep him lower on the list. Everybody knows the combo of
Comp. Searching/Oaking/Findering first turn to discard energy, then soak it
back up for a 2nd turn Psyburn. My Rating: 8 and then Rocket Scyther- I have
to say, the Rockets trained this guy well. He has resistance to fighting,
Shadow Images can make it very hard to damage him while he sits there hitting
you for 40 with Blinding Scythe, and he has decent HP/retreat. Rocket
Scyther's weakness to fire is bad with all the fossil magmars running around,
but thats pretty small in comparison to what he can do.Wigglytuff kills him
in too. Overall, not as good as Jungle Scyther but pretty close. My Rating:
7.5
9.Moltres(Fossil)-When it comes to decking your opponent out, Moltres is
king.Dive Bomb is often risky, but if you arent in danger of being attacked
then why not? Try to keep him away from the action until you need him at the
end of the game, unless youre trying to Wildfire away important cards such as
Garbage Run and Item Finder before your opponent gets a chance to draw them.
My Rating:8.0
8.Hitmonchan-Its such a shame there are so many cards with resistance to
fighting, or else hed still be on top. Hitmo rules over Jiggly/Wiggly, Buzz,
Lickitung, Chansey,Clefairy/Fable and Erika's Jiggly, making him a good
metagame card.Just watch out for MP Mewtwo, R. Zapdos, Scyther, and
Moltres:( My Rating:7.5
7.Scyther-What's not to like about this guy, except for his Fire weakness?
Magmar kills him, sadly, and thats why hes not as high on this list as I'm
sure you would have expected.Free retreat, colorless attack, fighting
resistance, what hasnt been said. My Rating:8.0
6.Rocket Zapdos- WHAT???? NO.6??? No, I'm not crazy, its just Rockets Zapdos
isnt quite as good as everyone assumes it to be. Plasma is nice, but 20
damage just wont cut it if youre expecting to win you games.Electroburn kills
off Hay Pokes and with a PlusPower it kills off Wiggly. Chansey can be a pain
for this guy, and Ditto can KO it with 2 DCEs while only taking 20
damage.Clefable also kills it with only ONE energy without taking ANY
damage(unless the energy attached to Clefable is an electric energy.)So, this
guy has some good/some bad, equaling out to #6. My Rating:8.5
5.Dark Vileplume-You may disagree with this but in my area he kills. If you
combine him with Moltres, Chansey and Scyther, with multiple Dark Glooms
confusing your actives sitting on the bench, you've got yourself a stall
deck.No trainers shuts down so many decks its not funny, and just about the
only thing to do against a deck like this is hope they get tails on Dark
Glooms Pollen Stench and attack with whatever you have. If you can get an
early advantage or play Muk, you should have an easy time however. An
attacking Dark Vileplume deck will occasionally make an appearance, and they
can be just as good. My Rating:8.5
4.Magmar(Fossil)-Yep, Fossil Magmar. He kills Scyther, Rocket Scyther, and
Dark Vileplume(well the Oddishs before they evolve.)Status effects are coming
back, and Magmar is a living breathing status effect king. Smokescreen stalls
while you power up somehting else, and when they do get an attack in just
Scoop him and start all over again. Smog will get you Prizes, or it can force
your opponent to retreat and waste valuable energy(poison.)Retreat is nice
too. Overall a great card. My Rating:8.5
3.(Tie between Wigglytuff and Ditto)- I'll bet you were wondering when hed
come in. Used to be my fav card, I remeber when i used to kill with him. Now
its harder to use him with Dark Vileplume and Stall decks being played more
often(at least in my area.)Still, hes a colorless Pokemon(meaning he can fit
inot any deck) and he can do 60 damage turn 2. With PlusPower he KOs the
common, well, anything.Lullaby, an often overlooked move, is good for
desperate situations when you cant get Do the Wave powered up.Jigglypuff is a
nice little basic too, 60 HP and decent attacks.Resistance to psychic is
always good with Mewtwo everywhere. Chan, ER and SER, Dark Gloom and Dark
Vileplume, Chansey, Ditto, Magmar, they all just sort of slow him down/screw
with him.Thats why he's not No. 1, but with the right deck you can win even
against the odds. My Rating:9.0 and then Ditto- Well what can i say about
ditto. He is a metagame card king, because even if youre not trying to
metagame anything if you play him you are.The ability to copy anything your
opponents has, including Poke Powers, weakness and resistance, type, retreat,
attacks, is just amazing. His only downside is the 50 HP he has when hes on
the bench/is Goop Gassed/or there is a Muk in play.Scoop Up is the answer
here.Weak Pokemon kill Ditto as well, ironically, because he copies their
weak HP and attacks. But who plays those(at least in tournaments?)Like many
people have said, hes the thinking man's card.My Rating:9.0
2.Electabuzz- Speed, status effects, good HP, low attack costs, what else is
there to say? Only downside is the damage he takes from Thunderpunch(with
tails) because there are so many Pokemon that can take advantage of
that(Wigglytuff, Blastoise.)Buzz kills Blastoise however, and with ER and SER
he kills lots of things. Hitmonchan spells his doom, but thats what Scyther
and Rocket Zapdos are for. There's not much to say about him, that other
people havent already said. My Rating:9.5
1.Chansey- What's better than a big fluffy 120 HP egg that can dish big
damage and take big damage? Nothing, thats what! Sure he might not be good in
the attacking phases from beginning to mid game, but he stalls when you get a
bad hand, ends games with Double-Edge, and can take out any threat your
opponents may be building on the bench/or is attacking with(such as any Hay
Poke, Wigglytuff.)Stall decks cant live without him(well some can, but you
get the point.)1 retreat is awesome for a 120 HP Pokemon too. Theres also the
resistance to Psychic, in other words Movie Promo Mewtwo. My Rating: 9.5
And now the Top 5 Trainers:
5. Chaos Gym- Play this card first turn and you already have an advantage. If
you can get your opponents hand down to zero first turn, then play Chaos
Gym,them topdecking Oak wont help them much . Still, it does have downsides.
You shouldnt play it too early or you'll screw yourself over too. Plus, other
stadium cards take it out of play without the coin flip. My Rating: (depends
on how you play it) 9.0
4. Gust of Wind-A lot of people call it Gust of Win, and thats what it is. It
will get you your last Prizes. Or it can get a high retreat cost Pokemon in
so you can stall for time or beat up on it when it cant retreat.Or it can
just make your opponent waste a Scoop Up/Switch or energy to get that Pokemon
out of the way. It can mess up your opponents plans, Ko a Ditto that has 50
or more damage, it can get you the first strike at a Pokemon your opponents
has been building on the bench before it becomes a threat, or it can KO a
Pokemon your opponent has been building on the bench. The things it can do
cant be measured.My Rating:10.0
3. Item Finder- Great for any part of the game, especially for mid to late
game, when Gust will get you that last Prize, or youre about to deck and need
that Garbage Run.It can get back Oaks in the early part of the game, or
PlusPowers for one hit KOs with Tuff over and over again.Like Gust fo Wind,
its possibilities are endless. My Rating:10.0
2. Computer Search- It gets you anything for the price of two cards. If you
need an Oak in the beginning of the game, Comp. Search will get it for you.
If you need that Gust or Wigglytuff or PlusPower or Scoop Up, Comp. Search
will get it for you. Much like Gust and Finder, this card has endless
possibilities. My Rating:10.0
1. Professor Oak-Duh. What else did you expect? The ability to get 7 new
cards for the price of discarding your old hand is awesome, and it wins
games. I gurantee you, no deck should be without Oak. He gets you out of bad
situations, he gets you the right cards, he gives you card advantage. A
broken card. My Rating: 11.0(out of ten)
