Hey Pojomaniacs! It's the Goober again, with some
tips for beginners and
ideas for people who are just too bored of using a haymaker and winning all
the time. They say whether they are tournament decks or fun decks, so you
should be able to find what you need without having to read through each one.
Enjoy!
Ye Olde Haymaker ~ Tournament
Okay, if you can't win a match, try this one for a while, but
otherwise
leave it alone because it's way too old to be any fun for you or your
opponent. (I won't deny, though, that there is something fun about
riffling
through your deck on turn one to get four PlusPowers for the win.) These
decks typically include Hitmonchan, Electabuzz, and Scyther (but no grass
energy). A good idea is to include four rainbow energy, since you'll have
a
bunch of types. Oaks, CPU searches, and PlusPowers are a must because this
deck tries to win quickly. Just go easy on the Oaks if it looks like a
long
game.
TurboTuff ~ Tournament
A slight change from the haymaker, and a bit more fun because
you're
using Jiggly and Wiggly, two that make your opponent think, "I can't
believe
a stupid balloon just beat up four of my Pokemon!". These decks need
Scythers to protect against fighting Pokemon, which Wiggly and Jiggly are
weak against. The other Pokemon vary from deck to deck. Oaks, CPU
Searches,
and PlusPowers are still essential, but you're also going to need Challenge!
because Wiggly works best with a bunch of buddies on the bench.
Sponge ~ Tournament
Another Haymaker variant. This deck uses Movie Mewtwo a
lot. CPU Search
for it on turn one, discarding two psychic energy, and use Energy Absorption
to get those psy energy to attack for forty on turn two. Works very well
against Hitmonchan. You'll need something colorless to protect him against
other psychics or Dittos. Oaks, CPU Searches, and PlusPowers are still
needed.
Spuffmaker ~ Tournament
I made this one myself. Just get some Movie Mewtwo from
Sponge, Jigglys
and Wigglys from TurboTuff, and Scyther and Electabuzz from Haymaker. For
the strategies, just do the same thing you did for the Pokemon and combine
all three. (That's easy; they're all the same.)
Raindance ~ Tournament
This one is a non-haymaker way to get a quick win. A
bit slow on turn
one, when you don't even play an energy, just keep Squirtle back on the bench
while Articuno or Lapras is active, then on turn two, breed Squirtle to
Blastoise and lay all your water energy, then Oak or Bill for some more. If
all goes well you'll get 30-60 damage on turn two! Then just keep pounding
away. As always, Oaks, CPU Searches, and PlusPowers are essential, but
this
time you'll need Pokemon Breeders too.
Stall ~ Tournament
This one may not fare too well when Gym comes out, and it was
definitely
hurt by Fossil and Rocket. The idea is to get Alakazam out ASAP, so you
can
switch damage around to stay alive. You'll need Chansey to soak up damage,
and Mr. Mime to minimize the amount of damage you need to deal with. No
Oaks
or Bills here, though one or two Challenge! might be useful to get your Abras
and Chanseys. Pokemon Center and Scoop Up are key, since you just need to
keep your opponent away from killing six pokemon before they can't draw a
card. Some of these decks use no energy, but I think that's too risky.
Sneezy Grass ~ Fun
This one uses Hay Fever to really make your opponents angry,
since they
can't play trainers. You need Dark Vileplume, obviously, and Dark
Dragonair
helps because the Idea is to get a Dark Vileplume into play ASAP. Of
course,
once you've done that you need to actually Knock Out opponents, so Scythers
and Pinsirs are helpful. Trainers aren't really needed for this deck,
although CPU Searches and Oaks help if you're in a pickle. There's some
dispute about the use of Pokemon Breeder in this deck to get to the Dark
Vileplume instead of Dark Gloom. If you use it, you can only have one in
play at a time since it counts as a trainer, and it can't be fetched from the
deck by Dark Dragonair. However, I use it because the idea is to get it
out q
uickly.
Eenough Eevee Eevolutions ~ Fun
You'll have to have access to Promo Eevee for this one.
The idea is to
get a quick one out early, like Dark Jolteon or Dark Flareon, to get some
quick KOs while you build up a hard hitter, like Flareon or Vaporeon. Most
decks use one of each from Rocket, and one of each from Jungle. You'll
need
some backup in case you can't evolve your Eevees, so two Electabuzz, two
Lapras, and two Fossil Magmar help. Oaks and CPU Searches are still
needed,
and you might want Challenge! to help you find your Eevees. You'll also
want
Nightly Garbage Runs to get back the Eevees and Evolutions you lost early in
the game.
Speedos ~ Fun
Here, you'll want to put out a Zapdos as your active and put
two Voltorb
on the bench on turn one. Turn two, evolve both Voltorbs into Base
Electrode, and Buzzap them both to the Zapdos for sixty on turn two! Two
KOs
is a small price to pay for that. While, you're doing that, build up
another
Zapdos with regular energy. You might want Scyther as more protection
against Fighting. Oaks and CPU Searches needed here, too. Challenge!
is
also useful to get you your birds. Nightly Garbage Run might help a bit.
Just watch out for Super Energy Removal.
Primal Frenzy ~ Fun
A bit complicated. You've got your Dark Primape, who
just confused
himself. Put a defender or two on him to soften the blow if you flip
tails,
and they last through your opponent's turn too. While you're confused,
Dark
Gloom's Pokemon Power is risk free. If you get tired of the confusion, use
a
Full Heal or Full Heal Energy. Hey, and if you flip heads on your attack
while you're confused, you deal a whopping seventy damage! Of course, Oaks
CPU Searches, and Challenges are still needed. The best thing about this
deck is it requires very few rares.
Well, that's about it. There are a few more, such as
the Puppy deck,
which uses both Promo and Base Arcainine, the Click-Boom deck, where all you
do during your turn is attach a fire energy to Charmeleon, Ninetails, or Base
Arcainine and say, "Boom", and the Energy Trans deck, which uses
to switch
energy around to use cool cards like Pokemon Center risk-free, but that's all
I'm covering for now. I've used a lot of these decks myself, and they
work.
Try 'em for yourself. Have fun!
