Hello, pojopeople! Let's get right to the point. We need to read
the text before we go do all these "combos" that don't really work.
Some people take one glance at a card and only read the good parts and totally
forget the bad stuff. For example, someone believes that Metal Energy and
Erika's Dratini will be "invincible" together. What they completely forgot is
that damage comes before any other effect, and with that, anything that brings
damage down other than Pokemon Powers. Let's look at some of the other myths and
I'll provide a statement that disproves that theory:
1. Mr. Mime+Metal Energy--This is similar to the Erika's Dratini myth. 2
Metal on Mime is supposed to make him "invincible". BUT, damage comes first.
Let's say a Hitmonchan Special Punches a Mime with 2 Metal Energy. Supposed to
do nothing, right? 40 is prevented by Invisble Wall...but wait! We take the 20
damage off first! 40-20=20. So Mime gets hit for 20.
2.Porygon Vs Rocket's Zapdos--The idea here was to change Rocket's Zapdos's
weakness to Lightning so that it would massacre itself with Electroburn.
Unfortuneatly, this doesn't work. Read Conversion 1: C If the Defending
Pokemon has a weakness, change to a type of your choice other than
colorless. Now look at Rocket's Zapdos's weakness. Having troble finding it?
That's because it's weaknessless. No weakness can't be changed to having a
weakness.(I did, however, do this to an Arcanine once. The kid didn't know what
I had done and did Take Down. It had 50HP left, but it was weak to itself so it
ended up killing itself...)
3.Mr. Mime and Dark Energy--Just as phony as the Metal trick. It was
thought that Dark energy had the opposite effect of Metal, lowering defense by
10 while raising attack by 10. Again, read Dark energy. It says between
turns. Dark Energy provides a poison-like effect to non-Dark Pokemon,
and it doesn't go away simply by retreating(unless you discard Dark Energy), or
evolve(unless the evolved form is Dark).
4.Dark Raichu and Dark Energy--Supposed to make Surprise Thunder totally
destroy your opponent's entire bench, right? After all, Dark Energy is supposed
to increase attack by 10, and since Raichu has Dark in its name, it's safe to
play. And 1 Dark Energy means 40 and 20 or 30 possible to the opponent's Bench.
And the more, the better. Reading Dark Energy, it says, "If the Pokemon Dark
Energy is attached to damages the Defending Pokemon, that
attack does 10 more damage to the Defending Pokemon..." Wait a
second! It says only the Defending Pokemon gets the extra damage. That means the
Bench still gets just 10 or 20 or 0. Sorry...(This applies to Pluspower,
too!)
5.Pokemon Powers aren't affected by Metal Energy--Again, another case of
the words. An Elekid Playful Punches a Steelix with 2 Metal Energy attached to
it. How much does Playful Punch do? NOTHING! Why? Read Metal Energy:
Damage done to the pokemon that Metal Energy
is attached to is reduced by 10(After Applying Weakness and Resistance)...
Damage PERIOD. Doesn't say attack, Power, or Trainer. Damage in
general is reduced by 10.
6.Murkrow is useless in the prescence of Unown D--This may be due to poor
wording on the part of Wizards, but Murkrow's Feint Attack says, "Choose one of
your opponent's Pokemon and this attack does 20 damage to that Pokemon.
This attack's damage is not affected by Weakness, Resistance, Pokemon
Powers, or any other effect on the Defending Pokemon". Now, this may be
a misconception. Is the attack separating the Defending Pokemon from the Bench,
or does the Pokemon with the effect that you want cancelled have to be active?
If the first case is the true one, then Murkrow can continue to haunt benches
without having its damage affected by Unown D. Even if the second case is true,
a GOW and a Mean Look then there's no mistaking that the Power is
useless.
7.Energy Search can get Metal/Darkness energy cards--Those of you that
think Metal and Darkness Energy are basic are correct! They are
basic energy types. So that means their Energy is basic-NOT!!
It says it right on the card. "Does not count as a basic energy
card". Energy Search and other stuff that gets basic energy
cards will not get Metal/Darkness. You'll have to us CPU Search, Energy
Charge, Fossil Gastly, or MP Mewtwo+Energy Flow to get it.
8.Self-Damage Pokemon and Metal Energy--Many people believe that a Pokemon
that hurts itself with its attack will have damage on itself reduced by 10 with
Metal Energy. This is partly true. But they left out one part. Read Metal
Energy. It says that damage it takes is reduced by 10, and damage it
does is also reduced by 10 if it isn't Metal type. Let's take
Rocket's Zapdos, for instance. Electroburn can make Zappy toast itself pretty
quickly. So we'll use Metal for the Colorless spot it has for Electroburn. Now,
here's what happens: 60 damage to the enemy(70-10 because Zappy isn't Metal).
Now, 10 to itself(30 for 3 Lightning, -10 for defense, but also
-10 for offense). This trick will also work with Arcanine,
Misty's Dewgong, and, dare I say it, Base Magnemite!
BTW, can somebody give me the official stats(that means no
shortening or modifing) of the Promo Smeargle(I know its attack is called Paint,
or is it a Power)? I'd be delighted if someone would be kind enough to mail them
to me. Thanks!
