Hello everyone. I'm here to discuss Wizards' plan of holo and non holo
versions of the same exact cards. For Jungle, Fossil, and Rocket, we've had
to put up with buying boosters and getting a bunch of non-holos as our rares,
while people in Japan are getting holos in every pack. Wizards explains that
it's for collectors and players, but their idea of this is severely flawed.
How do collectors and players know if they'll get the holo/non holo they
need? Making two types of boosters for each set (one with holo in every pack
for more money and one with a non holo) would be an improvement, even though
that's a bad idea too. A 1 in 3 chance of getting a holo is pretty pointless
when the Japanese ones have holos in every booster. I see it as an excuse to
get people to buy AT LEAST twice as many boosters to complete the set. You'll
definitely get doubles if you buy a box, and now that there are 32 possible
rares, a box of 36 won't get you the whole set, even though you already
shelled out $150+ for the box. Wizards does this to make more money on
boosters and make the set larger. If they keep this up, Gym 1 and 2 will be a
huge failure. I expect that they'll change it from 2 rares in a pack to 1,
make holo AND non holo versions of all the cards that are exclusively holo in
Japanese Gym, and keep the cards that are exclusively non holo rares, and add
2 commons to have 11 cards in the pack. If they really do that to Gym and
Neo, I'll give up the card game.  A holo rare and a non holo rare in every
pack would be good enough in English, I don't care if they keep the packs
with 10 cards instead of 11. Just a holo in every pack will be Wizards' first
intelligent decision.
