this is more of a rant, i did not know where to
send it, so please read it:
I have recently left pokemon cards for magic the
gathering, and would like to sompare the two and rant about both.
Pokemon is a card game for 10 and up kids, it
requires some skill and strategy to play, but not much. Magic is
intended for a higher age group and requires alot more skill and strategy.
Pokemon has four sets and about 500 cards, and Magic has over 25 sets and
1,000's of cards.
Most people complain about base set 2 and say it
is a money making scam, it's not. Magic has 6, and is coming out with a
seventh expansion, the reason they are made is to leave out broken cards and
and add new text to cards to make them be used as the were made for.
Also, holgraphic cards, most people say that it is
a money scam to, it is not either. Magic cards in newer sets have random
foil cards of every card, so if you get a foil card, you can trade it for one
or two non foils of the same card, it is an advantage, unless you need foil
cards. Pokemon should have it like every card has a foil version, and if
you get it in a pack, you can still get a rare, but foils would be in every
5-6 packs insead of 3-4. Imagine, a deck of all foil cards, even
energies, my friend has a deck like that in magic, and it would be cool
to have it in pokemon.
One last thing is the pictures. Magic
and pokemon are made by the same company, and should both have good art.
Magic art is so good that it can be frammed and hanged on a wall in an art
show, but pokemon.....Magic also has a good set of stories behind it, written
in novels by good writers, (or so i'm told), but the pokemon show could use
some new writters.
I like the fact that wizards has made Christopher
Rush an artist for a promo card, but it is one of his worst works. It is
like they told him to draw in pokemon style, bad!
That is all I have to rant about, and my advice is
to start collesting magic cards, buy a starter deck and see if you like it, it
is confusing, but it is fun!
