Hello everybody! It's me, MrMonkey33, back with another strategy for all you viewers at
home! This time I will show you some types of cards that I think should be included in every
deck, except maybe stall. And now, the moment you've all been waiting for, and no not the
time when I shut up and end this article, the strategy...
Pokemon:
Walls: We all need walls. We don't want that Magikarp being koed in the second turn, so
place a big fat punching bag in front of it until you evolve. Also for a lot of pokemon,
it takes a while to get all the energies needed to attack, so you again put out the
punching bag to get some more time. Some good wall pokemon are Chansey, Base
Zapdos, Kanghaskan (I most likely misspelled that but I don't want to go look at the
card.), and Lickitung. There are others but they aren't near as good. If you're
gonna use Kanghaskan, Base Zapdos, or Lickitung you will need to put in switches
or scoop ups to get them out of there before they die (or faint for da children)
Hay: As much as I hate haymakers, every deck should include one or two types of hay
pokemon (No more cuz then the deck would be considered a haymaker and that
would just be wrong.) These pokemon should only be used during the early game to
mainly stall while still doing a good sum of damage. The reason you should stall will
be explained later. I think we all know good hay pokemon, but I'm gonna repeat
them anyway cuz I'm bored. They are Fossil Magmar for fire, Scyther for grass and
colorless, Electabuzz for lightning, Hitmonchan for fighting, MP Mewtwo or Jynx for
psychic, and Lapras for water.
Late-Game Powerhouses: These are the reason that you stall. They are the big evolutions
with damaging attacks doing 60+ damage and a good amount of hp to survive your
opponent's damaging attacks. These attacks usually take large amounts of energy.
You should be able to kill of (or make faint, again for da children, never forget the
children) all of your opponent's pokemon in a reasonably short amount of time.
Some good examples of these powerhouses are Ninetails, Blastoise, Venusaur,
Nidoking, Raichu (Base), and Arcanine (Base). Fighting and psychic don't really
have any good powerhouses, since fighting is mainly a fast type and psychic is mainly
a stall.
Trainers:
Card-Drawing: Yes, we all need those lovely Professor Oaks and Bills. Stall decks have the
lowest need for them, but you might still want to add a couple Bills for those tight
situations. Gambler also works but it revolves around flipping so it's not as good. Its
only good point is that you shuffle your hand into your deck and not discard.
Disruption: This includes Energy Removal, Super Energy Removal, and Gust of Wind.
Every deck should have ER and GoW, but some might not benefit from SER. You
just have to test out your deck a lot and find out what works. Disruption is one of
the best strategic-like elements of the game in my opinion. (Don't email me asking
what that means. It's hard to put into words. Just use your imagination.)
Searching: Some of the best cards in the game in my opinion. These include Computer
Search, Pokemon Trader, and Item Finder. These cards can help you get that
certain card at once without having to use Bill or Professor Oak and hoping you'll get
it. Item Finder, though, is different in that instead of getting cards from your library
(pile you draw from for you Apprentice-illiterate people), it gets cards back from
your discard pile. Think of the possibilities of a deck with 4 SER and 4 Item Finder
to get all those SER back. That's like having 8 Super Energy Removals in your
deck! That removes 16 of your opponent's energy cards! (Yes, it removes 8 of
yours but that's not the point!) Every deck should have Computer Search and Item
Finder, but maybe not Trader. Once again you'll just have to test out your deck a lot
and find out what works.
Well, that's six basic types of cards to put in your deck. You need energy too (except for the
energy-less stall decks), but if you didn't already know that read the rulebook again and then
go take an IQ test and make sure your IQ is a positive integer. That's all for now.
Goodnight everybody!!!
