I just read "How to get Metal Energy Faster " by Zaku II.

And how very wrong he was! You can be kicked out of tournaments by using Energy Retrieval to get back Darkness Energy.

Metal and Darkness Energy are NOT Basic Energy Cards. But Darkness and Metal are Basic Energy types.

That means that the type Darkness and the type Steel are both basic, just like Fire, Lightning and the rest.

But the two Neo Genesis Cards Darkness Energy and Metal Energy are not basic Energy cards.

So theoretically, there could be some future set with Basic Metal & Darkness Energy.

That is why Rainbow Energy counts as Darkness & Metal.

So Energy Retrieval, Super Energy Retrieval, Energy Search, Nightly Garbage Run and Energy Charge can not be used to get back Metal & Darkness Energy because the cards say "basic Energy card".

Energy Charge, though, can be used because it says "two Energy cards from your discard pile" and not "two Basic Energy cards from your Discard Pile"
