If you read the Neo review in the Feb. issue, then you probably read their
"Best Of The Best" section, in which they listed the best card of
their
particular section in the TCG. I however, have a major quarrel with some of
their selections, and you probably will agree with me. Let's look at what
they said:
Colorless
Top Deck says: Lugia
I say: Cleffa
Comments: Colorless is pretty mediocre in Neo, and Lugia would have been a
good choice if a certain Starshape Pokemon were in the expansion. Cleffa is
clearly superior, with its Elm-like attack and Baby Power, it is incredibly
better than Lugia.
Darkness
Top Deck says: Sneasel
I say: Sneasel
Comments: Um, I'd just like to apologize to the one guy way in the back who
truly believes Murkrow is better than Sneasel. Wait a minute, no I don't!
Sneasel rules!
Fighting
Top Deck says: Donphan
I say: Gligar
Comments: C'mon, he's only got 10 HP less than Donphan, no Retreat Cost, a
20 damage attack for a DCE, can Poison for a Fighting Energy, and is a
Basic. Why's Donphan better again?
Fire
Top Deck says: Lv. 35 Quilava
I say: Lv. 35 Quilava
Comments: Char is simply too revolutionary and deadly to be overlooked. And
I hear more Fire Pokemon coming in furture expansions will have Char, so
look out for a Fire archetype soon.
Water
Top Deck says: Lv. 69 Feraligatr
I say: Lv. 69 Feraligatr
Comments: Dounpour is like Raindance without limits. Need I say more?
Thought so.
Lightning
Top Deck says: Pichu
I say: Lanturn
Comments: This is really the most difficult choice. There are a lot of
Lightning Pokemon in this set that are good. Pichu's OK, but there are
better. Any one in the Mareep/Flaafy/Ampharos family could be here, or Neo
Pikachu, but I feel Lanturn, who with his ability to do more damage with
Water Energy attacked, and can Paralyze, is not only one of the more
creative cards in the set, but one of the most deadly in the right deck.
Psychic
Top Deck says: Slowking
I say: Slowking
Comments: Mind Games is a pain in the neck for the Trainer-happy player, and
with multiple copies or a Chaos Gym in play, that's real trouble for your
opponent. Oh, yea, it can do 40 and Confuse for 3 Psychic, too.
Grass
Top Deck says: Bayleef
I say: Lv. 57 Meganium
Comments: They were close, but off a Stage. This Meganium has once again
made non-Condition Grass decks a reality, and has already breeded an
up-and-coming archetype. C'mon, why should this be shadowed by the ability
to prevent conditions?
Metal
Top Deck says: Steelix
I say: Steelix
Comments: Out of the two Metal types to choose from, this one has 110HP and
has solid attacks. Not that hard of a choice.
Energy
Top Deck says: Darkness and Metal Energy
I say: Darkness and Metal Energy
Comments: The effects of these two Energies is magnnificent. Recycle Energy
can't compare.
Trainers
Top Deck says: Gold Berry
I say: Sprout Tower
Comments: Let's see...which one's better? Remove 4 damage counters without
discarding, or kill off the major archetype dominating the playing field.
Hmmm...
Well, that's it. Thanks for reading my incredibly long report. Thanks, and
good bye.
