People are wailing over two new fossil cards that will supposedly
destroy any possibility of effectiveness by the ol' damage swap and
raindance decks, but I think these are a bit exaggerated...
For starters, Muk is weak against psychic. This means that the Base
Set Haunter, and better yet, Kadabra (and you would have to be
strange not to include one in a deck w/ Alakazam!) can kill it in ONE
HIT! Mr. Mime and Jynx can, too, if it has at least two damage
counters on it. Drowzee and Alakazam can confuse, and the Haunters
can put it to sleep. Also, most Damage Swap players I've met use
Chanseys, which can barely kill it in one hit (80 damage to
itself is a small sacrifice for getting your PPs back) This means
that a good player with a gust could smack down a Muk with ease...
Similarly, Aerodactyl will hurt non-haymaker decks...but the simple
solution is, put in some Pokemon that don't need to evolve! Don't
make your deck ONLY evolutions (I think this is why Lapras and
Articuno showed up in Fossil...before them, a Raindance deck couldn't
really follow this advice...) Put Pinsirs in your evo-grass deck!
Put a couple Jynx in your psychic deck! Get some Scythers! A
scyther can kill an Aerodactyl in one hit, due to weakness!
Even though you'll have to modify your old decks, you can get around
the new fossil cards...if you disagree, write me at cmiller@ossm.edu
