Did you all read Delvecchio's article on Splashing? I did, and I found
he
had some very good points, but also missed some important points as well.
Anyway, I promised my Magikarp he could help with an article a little while
ago, so I guess he'll be joining us...
<a pokeball opens up and an enraged fish jumps out>
<Magikarp> MagiKARRRRRRRPPPP!!!! Magi karp <translator
engaged> promised
you'd let me help several WEEKS ago! Is THIS what you call a promise?
If
so, I might just join some OTHER trainer...
<Foss> Okay...I won't wait so long next time...I was really busy.
You know
that.
<Magikarp> Fine. Lets talk about splashing. First, this
guy states:
"The most useful 'splashers' have a 20 for CC attack. Some have a 10
for C, or 20 for C. They may also have nice effects. Often they have
40-50HP. They are all basic."
<Foss> This is not exactly right. Plenty of good splashing
poke's have 30
for CCC or the good ole 10+ possible 20 for CC. Only occasionally do they
have other effects. The best splashers are 60 HP and up. I would
only use a
50 HP splash if I was planning on evolving it (Base Charmander to Base
Charmeleon or a similar circumstance). Never use a splash that couldn't
hold
its own in battle...you may end up with it as your only pokemon or your
starter. That mean not all splashes are basic.
<Magikarp> Soo, then his golduck lists different splashes for each
color.
I'll give you an updated list:
Grass: Scyther is the only one who should be used, all the others are too
weak, don't do enough damage, or all of the above. Scyther has nice HP, a
very strong attack, no retreat cost, and a nice resistance. There is no
reason to use anything else.
Fire: Thre are a few choices here:
Ponyta/Rapidash
Charmander (B)/Charmeleon (B)
Pr. Eevee/Flareon (J)
Bl. Charmander
My choice would be either Charmander/Charmeleon or Eevee/Flareon. These
are
solid pokes and can deal out some serious damage to a poke weak to them.
bl.
Charmander is wanting in HP and won't last into the second turn of battle.
Fighting: There are two choices here:
1. TR Machop
2. Brock's Ryhorn (rare)
Ryhorn is heavier in HP and has a slightly more interesting attack (20 for CC
and they switch their active with one of their bench). The only problem is
a
grass weakness with so many different Scyther running amuk.
Psychic: I'll agree with him on the Drowzee's but I refuse to even
consider
Neo translations at this point. Chances are they will be wrong.
Lightning: There are two logical choices here:
1. Pr. Electabuzz
2. Pr. Eevee/Jolteon (J)
Pr. Electabuzz and Jolteon both have that wonderful quick attack that does
10+ possible extra 20 damage for CC. All the other "Splashers"
from
lightning are too low in HP.
Water: There are a few
1. TR Squirtle
2. Pr. Eevee/Dk. Vaporeon or Vaporeon (J)
Squirtle's attack is standard (CC for 20), but Dk. Vaporeon is much
stronger
(CCC for 30) and has slightly higher HP. If you want a really High HP
splasher, use Vaporeon (J), which has a standard quick attack.
<Foss> That seems like enough, eh Magi?
<Magikarp> Yep.
<Foss> I'm not going to go into the methodology of splashing, but
you can
read my article back in June on Splashing if you want my reasons for
splashing and how to utilize it. Well, that's about it for now...
