Alrighty, everyone knows that there are alot of good Water Pokémon, they've
been around and have quite a few archtypes built around them. Fossil contained
the most water pokemon in a single set, but only gave us 2 really useable one's,
Lapras and Articuno. Anyways, enough history, let's get to the Top 5
list.
Number 5- Gyrados (Base) Not alot of Water pokemon have resistance (Only 2,
this and Articuno) and a weakness to grass is something the opponent might not
be expecting when this Stage 1 Pokémon evolves. The only problem is in the
evolution. Magikarp sucks, and that's putting it lightly. If you put
this thing in a deck, try Rocket Set's Magikarp on the bench for a turn, then
Raindance away with a benched Blastoise. With unusual Water-type stats, solid
attacks, and a whopping 100HP after Stage 1, Gyrados gets #5
Number 4- Misty's Poliwhirl (Gym Heroes) You know, in Modified, a format
declining the use of ER and SER and totally eliminating the purpose of No
Removal Gym and pretty much EcoGym too, you'd expect people to make use of this
card. second turn 20 and a chance at discarding an energy card is solid.
But Water punch is outright scary. It usually gives you 40-50 for 3 water
energy, and you don't even have to go through Magikarp, you get a fairly good
basic that can hold it's ground for a while too.
Number 3- Feraligatr (Neo:Genisis) Yes, the one w/ Riptide. This card is
great. It tops HP, Grass Weakness, an amazing combo w/ Trash Exchange. I
feel I don't need to say anymore but I feel the need to. Modified,
excellent. Non-Modified it loses a bit of ground, but not many card get an
archtype after them, ya hear?
Number 2- Articuno (Fossil) Yes'm, the bird is back, with no weakness, no
pre-evolved forms, and 70HP, Fighting Resistance, and a whole lot of damage for
3 or 4. Whether you like Paralysis or Bench hitting, Big Basics or Big
Damage, Articuno's the water type for you. I mean, what successful
Raindance doesn't run a few of these guys.
Number 1- Blastoise (Base) As if you didn't see it coming. Blastoise
is sickening and once it gets into play, it stays there. It ain't going no
where, it can't be stopped now, cuz it's Raindance for life! Raindance is,
with little doubt, the most powerful Mono-Water Archtype there is, possibly best
Evolution Archtype. Unfortunately, Modified isn't going anywhere either,
and Blastoise is becoming ol' school. But for any water Pokémon that
thinks it can accept the challenge of being number one, it first must go through
the big bad turtle, Blastoise!
