In my last article I posted a tip on metagaming. Today I'm gonna give
you
insight to a great deck tip called Synergy. What is synergy you ask?
Basically, its the relationship between two cards that work together. NOT
to
be confused with combos! No, this is much more fun. Now I'm gonna go deeper
in how to effectively use synergy;
How to use it: What you need to do when considering this aspect of the game
is decide on a stradegy or combo you want ot use. In others words stall,
beatdown, R. Zapdos/Metal energy, etc. Once you picked one, then you must
decide what will be your (back up)hitter(s), this is where synergy comes
in.
Let's say you wanted to use Zados and Metal energy. What you need is
something that does well vs. Clefable, and doesnt require lots of energy
since Zapdos will take a lot. An example would be Hitmonchan. They both can
go fast, Hitmonchan only needs one energy, and does great vs. Clefable. And
if you look at Ness's top 5 standard decks, not many have resistance to
fighting like you might expect. Then when you're playing the deck you'll
realize how smooth your deck's pokemon will work together.
In Conclusion- Basically the bottom line is this, a lot of people think
that
if they just put all the popular cards together they will automatically
work.
No, good decks have good cards, yes. But they also have all their pokemon
form a kinda of web of interlocking stradegies. Just to give you one more
example, here's my current deck;
3 Jiggly(Gives you a solid 1st turn attack for 1-turn KO's)
3 Wiggly(Second turn beatdown which is my stradegy)
3 Sneasal(See above)
2 Cleffa(Works with Eeeeeeeking to get the right energy)
2 Iggly(can get out of a lock by evolving!)
4 DCE
4 Dark
2 Rainbow
2 Recycle
4 Oak
4 Comp
4 I. Finder
3 Eco
1 Chaos
3 Lass
3 RSA
2 Time Capsule
4 Pluspower
2 Good Manners
