Hi guys, it's me again. I'm going to give
you reasons why the trainer card Lt Surge is very useful in a modified format
deck. For those of you who don't know what the card does, here's the
card's text underneath:
Lt. Surge - Move your active Pokemon to your
bench, and place a basic Pokemon from your hand into play, active. (Cannot
be used if you have a full bench.)
Now, why is this card useful in modified?
In Modified, you can't play the trainer card Switch. To switch your
Pokemon, you must either resort to Warp Point, or Double Gust (and the latter
does not let you choose the Pokemon you want to switch). But Warp Point
has the disadvantage that the opponent switches his active Pokemon too, and
that's not usually what you want. But Lt. Surge can be played as a
Switch. How? When playing Lt. Surge, put a baby Pokemon from your
hand to the active spot (or a Pokemon with no retreat cost), and then retreat
for the pokemon you want to put active. Admittedly, you must have a baby
pokemon in your hand to use Lt Surge, so make sure that you have a reasonable
number of babies in your deck. Most decks have about 5
Cleffa/Igglybuff. If you have more babies than that (maybe you use more
babies, like Tyrogue/Magby/Elekid/Pichu), then the Lt. Surge combo with a baby
is more probable to be effective.
