Introduction to Galaxy Express 999
The year is 2221 and travel in space has advanced greatly. Galaxy Trains are available that fly people to the outer reaches of the galaxy. Megalopolis is a huge modern city. The city is inside of a huge dome and that means that the cities climate can be controlled. This city was made for the rich however, in other words, those who could afford mechanical parts. People could buy spare parts for their bodies and this caused the rich population to be composed of mechanical people, these people could live for thousands of years. As for the humans, they were forced to live in the slums of Megalopolis, they wore tattered clothing and were dirty, but they had a dream. A rumor was spread around the poor that said there was a planet that gave away free mechanical parts and all you had to do to get to the planet was to bored the Galaxy Express 999. Many people would work away their lives, though, trying to afford a pass.
This is where we meet up with Tetsuro, Tetsuro and his mother are off to Megalopolis in hope of buying passes for the 3-9. Their plans change, however, when Count Mecha kills Tetsuro's mom. This is when Tetsuro meets Maetel and some of his problems are solved. Maetel offers Tetsuro a pass to board the 3-9, but under one condition, that he accompanies her on the 3-9. Tetsuro agrees immediately, but first he must take care of some business. Tetsuro kills Count Mecha for what he did to his mother, but now Tetsuro is a wanted man. Maetel and Tetsuro manage to board the train without being caught by the police.
The adventure has only begun, though, Tetsuro is now on a journey that he can not turn back on. He will travel to many different planet and place, and see many new people and things. Not much will be like he has known, but the only true question is whether or not Tetsuro will be able to make it to the planet where he can receive free mechanical parts, but we must ask ourselves, can anything really be free?
My Thoughts About Galaxy Express 999
Plot: I loved the plot to this anime, there was a new problem every few episodes, but the main goal was always there. This anime helps to teach you a lot about life and understanding what is important. I felt that the plot was one of the strongest points to this show.
Music: I enjoyed the music to this anime, you can tell that it is older, but it is still good music. I enjoyed the opening and closing theme's a lot. The music throughout the series was also used very well.
Artwork: You can tell that this is an older anime (1978-1981), but once again, you can't judge the artwork of that time compared to the artwork we see now. At the time it was very well drawn and I feel that it can still be viewed as a well-drawn anime. Some may have problems with the characters design, but it was a nice change and I enjoyed it.
Plot: A
Music: B
Artwork: B
Overall: B+
Overall Thoughts: As I have said many times, despite the fact that this is an older anime, I highly suggest it.
