Detailed Description
:
Born 131 years prior to the beginning of the Trigun series on the ship called Seeds, Vash and his twin brother Knives were going to be executed, however they were saved by Rem. Over the next year, they grew to the body of a normal 8-10 year old human and were being taught the ways of man by Rem and Alex. Further, Rem taught Vash and Knives her views on life and death, why everything exists, and the simple thought that "no one has the right to take the life of another." However, Knives deduced through the history of mankind that the human race is nothing more than an infection to the universe; unworthy of life. Knives then began to kill the crew of Seeds through the use of psychic suggestion and simple guns. After Knives recalibrated the ships trajectory to crash into a desert planet, Knives, Vash, and Rem were to leave on an escape pod. Rem thought that Alex was still alive and wanted to help to attempt and save the seeds and plant ships from crashing since that is what someone she loved long ago would have done. Closing the escape pod door, she cried as she told Vash to take care of Knives and left to save the ships. Once somewhat of a far distance from the Seeds ship, Vash watched as the ship exploded with Rem on it. Laughing at the foolish sentimentality of man, Knives revealed that he was the one responsible, but was willing to let Rem live due to Vash's attachment to her. Crying, Vash attacks Knives but is thrown to the ground. A message is then heard from the computer system exclaiming that "all ships now commencing orbital correction." Rem had succeeded in saving some of the ships at the expense of her own life.

For the next 130 years, no matter what the situation, Vash refused to take the life of any living being because of his love for Rem and the philosophies she taught to him. However, for over 100 years, Vash was completely alone, wandering the planet in search of Knives. This ended when he met Meryl Strife and Milly Thompson, employees of the Bernadelli Insurance Company. Their job was to find Vash the Stampede and monitor his actions in order to reduce and avoid possible destruction caused as a result of Vash. Though they did not believe that the man they had met could possibly be Vash the Stampede. Despite fitting the appearance based on rumors circulating over the planet, the man they met acted like a goof and a wimp. Any time Vash was faced with a situation or dilemma where someone could have possibly been hurt (especially him), he would stumble around, crying and whining until everyone was saved and the danger had passed. He had no choice though in Inepril City but to finally reveal his true appearance when faced against the Nebraska family. For the first time in the series, Vash was forced to fire his gun to save the very people who were trying to kill him for his bounty (Oh! I didn't mention how the entire city of Inepril was trying to kill Vash for the $$60,000,000,000 bounty. Oops). With only five bullets Vash was able to deter the giant fist of the Nebraska family's oldest male son, Gofsef which was flying at Vash at a speed of 120 iles (Yes, iles not miles) an hour. With the last bullet, Vash shot Gofsef's arm, disenabling him from firing his fist again. Despite defeating the Nebraska family with such ease and revealing some of his true abilities, Vash retained his goofy demeanor when repeating over and over that the land was made of "Love and Peace!" Still in disbelief that the man faced before her was Vash the Stampede, Meryl had no choice now but to accept this fact.

With the $$700,000 made from the defeat of the Nebraska family, Inepril City was affored Plant repairs and called in plant engineers, headed by a beautiful young woman named Elizabeth, who somehow knows almost everything about Vash the Stampede. Not seeming like he cares, Vash proposes as a joke and agrees to become Elizabeth's bodyguard in order to get what he wants. However, Elizabeth has hired an assassin to kill Vash who despite his excellent skill, is no match for the humanoid typhoon. Locking Vash in a room with the plant that was about to explode, Vash learns that Elizabeth is one of the few (if not only) survivor of July City after he destroyed it. She is bent on revenge for the death of her mother and father due to him. Knowing that he must keep moving and that the plants destruction would kill many people, Vash stands below the plant with his arms held up and his eyes closed. The rest of the town watches and waits for their death. However, the plant's levels begin to return to normal and the plant's explosion is averted. The door opens to reveal Vash standing hunched over, seemingly exahuasted, but with a smile on his face. The whole town rushes to the plant shouting praises for being saved by Vash. Walking up to Elizabeth, Vash apologizes for not dying since his death would have caused so many others to have gone with him. Elizabeth puts a gun to Vash and wants to shoot. Exclaiming that she wants revenge for her mother and father's deaths and the destruction of July City. Vash reveals that he has no memory of that time. The first things he ever saw was the rubble and destruction of July City and memories of his childhood. She still wants to shoot him and blame someone. Vash hugs her and says that he is sorry once more. Elizabeth however gasps as she remembers being hugged by the same man after wandering through July alone. She falls to the ground crying, knowing that the only one to show her real compassion since the deaths of her parents was Vash the Stampede.
