Argostars – Lightning Tydeu – #SUDA-EN071

While this card is face-up in the Spell & Trap Zone, Warrior monsters you control gain 500 ATK/DEF. Once per turn: You can discard 1 card; Special Summon this card as an Effect Monster (Warrior/LIGHT/Level 4/ATK 2000/DEF 2000) with the following effect (this card is also still a Trap), then you can add 1 “Argostars” card from your Deck to your hand, except “Argostars – Lightning Tydeu”.
● Once per turn (Quick Effect): You can place this card face-up in your Spell & Trap Zone.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Argostars – Lightning Tydeu is the next in the line of Continuous Traps we are looking at for the Argostars archetype.

Much like Eteo yesterday, Tydeu has a Quick Effect to put itself back into the Spell/Trap Zone from when it becomes a LIGHT Warrior, thus dodging targeting and monster destruction abilities. As a trap, Tydeu boosts your Warrior monsters by 500ATK/DEF. Not much of a boost, but Tydeu itself will be 2000/2000ATK/DEF when it’s in the Main Monster Zone. As a Level 4 that’s pretty good. Eto will need that boost and she will only reach 1300/1300 stat line, while the one we don’t review this week (Capane) would be 2300/2300, with the same being said for Arda, the only Main Deck monster.

For Tydeu to hit the Monster Zone you’ll have to discard a card. Not a bad cost, can set up the grave, and when summoned, Tydeu is a Argostars searcher, netting you any archetype card from the Deck. If you happen to not have gotten to Arda yet, she’s likely your best target, though as a Warrior and a regular monster, RoTA is also an option. The Field Spell, which we’ll review tomorrow, is your second best option.

As a 2000ATK/DEF monster, Tydeu is the strongest of the Argostars that you can have. Silhouhatte Rabbit is always going to be the best Link Monster for this archetype, getting you to another of your Argostars Trap Cards, while also being a Spell/Trap destruction when you summon any of your Argostars trap monsters (or any other Continuous Trap monsters you may be running). You can get to Tydeu easily through Arda banishing herself on-field, or the Field Spell can return one from the grave or banished area (after you use them for Xyz or Link Summon(s)).

Easiest of the Argostars Tarps to summon as a monster, as Tydeu doesn’t involve relying on your opponent. She will be the strongest attacker of the traps, boost all your Warrior-Type monsters, and, most importantly, search any of your Agrostars cards from the Deck. The Field Spell can add back an Agrostars card you discarded for Tydeu’s summon. Each Agrostars trap does something to help the archetype: bounce-back with Eto, search with Tydeu, and battle protection with Capane. Tydeu you need in 3’s.

Next up for Argostars Week is likely the best of the three Trap Monsters: Argostars – Lightning Tydeu.

Lightning Tydeu is a Continuous Trap that gives your Warrior monsters a 500 ATK & DEF boost while face-up in the Spell & Trap Zone, so giving you some more offense to get damage in. Once per turn, you can discard a card to summon this as an Effect Monster (Warrior/LIGHT/Level 4/ATK 2000/DEF 2000) and then you can add an Argostars card, besides Lightning Tydeu, from your Deck to your hand. Better stats than yesterday, and while you need a discard to summon her, you at least get a search in return for one of your two Main Deck monsters, one of the archetypal Spells, or another Trap Monster. She also has the same effect to return to the Spell & Trap Zone, so you can keep searching for cards each turn, though it will cost you more resources in your hand. It’s a searcher for one of the actual Argostars monsters, which is needed considering you want to get one of the two banished as fast as possible to maximize your Argostars effects. If only you only had to discard when you searched, but I guess all the Trap Monsters needed a condition to summon themselves so they aren’t always free.

Next up is another Trap monster from the Argostars lineup, Argostars – Lightning Tydeu, unsurprisingly a Continuous Trap. As Tydeu cannot search itself, you’ll pretty much be stuck accessing it with Argostars – Glorious Adra and Silhouhatte Rabbit, though you’ll very much want to grab it with Adra for reasons that will become clear. As an active Continuous Trap, Tydeu will boost the stats of all of your Warrior monsters (again, all Argostars so far) by 500. While Argostars are very desperate for offensive pressure, it’s still not quite enough to make them worth using as beaters– in fact, Tydeu would benefit a lot from this effect, but it’d have to stay in the backrow! The new Argostars monster would also prefer having Tydeu join it on the front lines, so overall this effect isn’t all that helpful. In addition to its obligatory Quick Effect to place itself back in the Spell/Trap Zone while it’s a monster, Tydeu has a single soft once per turn effect that can be activated any time while it’s a Continuous Trap, letting you discard a card to Special Summon it as a level 4 LIGHT Warrior monster with 2000 attack and defense, then search any Argostars card. Statwise, Tydeu has the best raw stats of any Argostars period, but again, their new monster has it beat in that department. What we’re really looking for here is the search effect; fishing for combo pieces is obviously great, and you’ll want to use it to grab Argostars – Home Stadium if you don’t have it yet. We’ll go more in-depth with Home Stadium tomorrow, but all you need to know for now is it’ll be one of your main disruptions as well as a figurative recycling center to get your resources back. The elephant in the room is Tydeu being a combo piece that has the misfortune of being a Continuous Trap. That’s why you will have to move heaven and earth to get Tydeu with Adra, which can directly place Tydeu into your Spell/Trap Zone so you can use it immediately and grab Home Stadium. Tydeu is an important card, but needs some help to actually be useful; still, you’ll want to play 3, especially in Odion hybrids that’ll let you activate it immediately if you can get Temple of the Kings up.

+Key combo piece that searches for important cards
+Decent stats for an Argostars monster
-Needs external cards to search immediately
-Stat boost isn’t high enough to make a big difference
