Hello Pojo Fans,

Waifu deck revisit with the Labrynth monsters this week, beginning with Arianna the Labrynth Servant.

Arianna is a searcher for the Labrynth archetype, standard for most archetypes now. Your Normal or Special Summon kind of monster that nets you any archetype card from your Deck to your hand except themselves, once per turn, all that good stuff. Searching any card within the archetype is great. Solid DEF and good ATK for a Level 4. Early game you may search “Welcome Labrynth” to set and get one of your two big Fiend options from your Deck, or if you already have that piece, go for your Field Spell “Labrynth Labyrinth” and in tandem with “Welcome Labrynth” start the spot removal.

Now comes the effect(s) that revolve around Normal Trap cards within the archetype. For Arianna, if a monster(s) leaves the field because of your Normal Trap effect you get yourself a free draw (already good), but then can Special Summon a Fiend from your hand or set another Spell/Trap. Easy way to Special Summon either of your big Labrynth monsters (2 of them), but with the deck revolving around Normal Traps, it may be best to reset another Spell/Trap. Several of the Labrynth monsters have Quick Effects that involve being discarded so the Special Summon won’t apply to them. There are so many good Normal Trap cards that are great options for the archetype outside of their own archetype-based traps that you won’t run out of good cards to use.

All archetypes need a good searcher, a generic search monster that gets them to what they need. Arianna is that card for the archetype. The free draw off the archetype’s common effect is great, the search is great, and the Special Summon or set is great.

We enter the Labrynth this week as we take a look at the new Trap-based archetype by starting with one of their key searchers: Arianna the Labrynth Servant.

Arianna is a Level 4 DARK Fiend with 1600 ATK and 2100 DEF. Pretty solid stats, mainly that 2100 DEF, plus a great combination of DARK and Fiend. First effect triggers upon this card’s Normal or Special Summon, searching for any Labrynth card from your Deck that isn’t another Arianna, which is the most standard searching effect any archetype gets and it’s great to have here. The other effect triggers if a monster(s) leaves the field by your Normal Trap effect, letting you draw a card and then you can either Special Summon a Fiend monster or set a Spell/Trap from your hand. It’s a nice free draw at the bare minimum, turning it into another monster on board to get this archetype’s boss monster, or to set a Spell/Trap you drew to use on the next turn since you can’t activate it the turn it was set. Between the two Servants this archetype got, Arianna is the better one since it gets you to the whole archetype in general. The second effect is also nice for consistency and getting more monsters. Hard once per turn on each effect is standard. This is something you won’t want to go without in Labrynths.

I was a little lazy last week, but hopefully this week I’m a bit more consistent! We’re covering another archetype from Tactical Masters, the Labrynth archetype. Arianna the Labrynth Servant starts us off, a level 4 DARK Fiend monster. Being a DARK monster is always helpful, especially with the resurgence of the Virus Traps and the arrival of Tearlaments, even if Fiends in general have fallen by the wayside these days. Alongside Ariane the Labrynth Servant, being level 4 opens up possibilities for Rank 4 Xyz plays as well. With 1600 attack and 2100 defense, the stats are great for a level 4 monster, though we’ve come to expect stats to generally be irrelevant outside of bosses and OTK enablers.

Both of Arianna’s effects are a hard once per turn and you can only use one per turn, though realistically you can only really use one per turn anyway. On being Normal or Special Summoned, Arianna can search any Labrynth card except itself. Depending on what you open, you’ll definitely want to grab either Welcome Labrynth, the archetype’s main playmaker, or one of its boss monsters if necessary. Arianna’s second effect triggers if another monster leaves the field by the effect of your Normal Trap (so Compulsory Evacuation Device, Archfiend Glitch, etc) outside of the Damage Step, letting you draw one card then Special Summoning a Fiend monster from your hand or setting one Spell or Trap directly from your hand. The first option is probably what you’ll be using more often, since being able to get out the archetype’s bosses is a major priority. The second effect sounds nice until you realize you can’t activate it anyway without Labrynth Cooclock, which is more trouble than it’s worth. Either way, drawing a card is always great in a control deck. Overall, amazing playstarter for Labrynth; you’ll run 3 of it in Labrynth decks, no matter what.
