Aromatic [G] Energy (SW – Vivid Voltage 162/185) is a Special Energy card that provides [G] while attached to a Pokémon.  When you attach it to a Grass Pokémon, there are two additional effects:

  • If already afflicted by any Special Conditions, remove them from that Grass Pokémon.
  • The Grass Pokémon to which Aromatic [G] Energy is attached can’t be affected by Special Conditions.

Removing Special Conditions is pretty easy in the modern game; evolve (if you can) or head to the Bench.  That second one might not sound easy, but you just need something able to retreat on your Bench and a switching effects at the ready… or two switching effects and forget about manually retreating.

Assuming you even need to bother ditching a Special Condition.  Sometimes they’re a big part of the metagame, sometimes they’re not.  Sometimes it is critical you treat them ASAP, other times you can let them linger and it won’t make much (if any) difference.  If you’re Poisoned but it isn’t reducing how many turns it takes for your opponent to score the KO, or being used to trigger or prevent triggering an effect, it doesn’t actually matter.  Preventing Special Conditions is nice, but still too specialized, for the reasons given above.  Plus, if you’re really worried about it, there’s Galarian Rapidash to protect all your Pokémon.  It gets even worse in Expanded, where there are even more effective tricks for dealing with and/or preventing Special Conditions.

Aromatic [G] Energy just doesn’t do enough.  Aromatic [G] Energy either needed to also heal some damage (an update to Heal Energy) or protect against more than just Special Conditions (see Wonder Energy).
