Assault Reboot
– #DANE-EN070

Tribute 1 “/Assault Mode” monster; Special Summon 1 “/Assault Mode” monster from your Deck with a different name in Defense Position, ignoring its Summoning conditions. You can banish this card from your GY, then target any number of cards in your GY, with different names, that are “Assault Mode Activate” and/or specifically list “Assault Mode Activate” in their text, except “Assault Reboot”; shuffle them into the Deck. You can only use each effect of “Assault Reboot” once per turn.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Assault Reboot was so close to being a great trap for the archetype.

Level Modulation without the downsides of the previously mentioned card, but you still need to have an Assault Mode monster on the field to activate it. You trade one in for another, but that monster comes out in defense. Yeah, its effects are online, but it’s in defense. The cycle back effect is good, and while you don’t have to give up an LP or what not involving either effects, this card could’ve been so much better.

I misread the card and almost gave it a close-to perfect rating. Turns out, I was seeing the card for what it could have been.

  • Should have allowed tributing ANY “Assault” monster, not just “Assault Mode”
  • If locked into only Assault Mode monsters, the new monster should be in ATK mode
  • The banish to cycle back should include “Assault” monsters, as well as spell/trap “Assault” support

This archetype could’ve used something like that, instead, they got this.

Assault Reboot could have been great, but it’s not. You can tribute an Assault Mode monster to Special Summon a different Assault Mode monster from your deck in Def position. Def position sucks since you cannot push for attacks. This effect is once per turn so multiples don’t work on the same turn. It’s not a Continuous Trap which would have made more sense. The effect should have also included the hand, because Assault Mode monsters in the hand are dead draws. The second effect is also underwhelming. You banish Assault Reboot to take any number of differently named cards including Assault Mode Activate in the title or in the text from the grave into the deck. This is also only once per turn. Why? I’m not sure. If you’re banishing, then this could be done at most 3 times. You don’t get to draw anything after, which is something the deck lacks already. Finally, it would have been much better to place the cards at the bottom of the deck than to shuffle them into the deck because you don’t want to draw the Assault Mode monsters. Look elsewhere for better support. Or just a better archetype.

Because you probably want more ways to summon Assault Modes than Assault Mode Activate, here’s Assault Reboot.

Assault Reboot is a Normal Trap that lets you tribute an /Assault Mode monster and Special Summon a different /Assault Mode from your deck in Defense Position ignoring the summoning conditions. This is the easiest way to get Friday’s /Assault Mode out, but other than that it almost feels like you might as well summon a Synchro you want to immediately turn into an /Assault Mode form. I guess when you use up Arcanite Magician/Assault Mode’s counters it wouldn’t be bad to swap out, but that’s the only other use I can imagine for this right now. Another decent use could be to swap out an Assault Mode you really needed in a specific moment to get Stardust Dragon/Assault Mode. The other effect of Assault Reboot lets you banish it from the graveyard to target any Assault Mode Activate or cards that list Assault Mode Activate and shuffle them into the deck. An extra draw would of been nice afterwards, but I guess you aren’t taking a minus really when using this effect. Nice to recycle cards like Reflector or Sentinel or Beast or even your Assault Mode Activates to summon other /Assault Mode monsters. It’s an ok card, worthy of being ran at one at least for its niche uses, because you never know when it’ll come up.

Art: 4/5 Cool visual of Stardust Dragon/Assault Mode and Red Dragon Archfiend/Assault Mode fighting.

Assault Reboot, both deliciously and appropriately named, given all these cards are to reboot or resurrect the Assault Mode theme.  This is a Normal Trap, also with too much text on it.  You get to Target an Assault Mode Monster (note not necessarily under your control, just any one) and get to Special Summon one of your own, ignoring its Summoning Conditions.  That’s always a bonus to see that phrase.

The Monster is Special Summoned in Defense position, which is a bit of a downside, especially if you’re using this on your opponent’s turn, but it can still be a protection for you, if nothing else.  Finally, removing this card from play lets you Target and recycle any number of Assault Mode cards from your Graveyard back into your Deck.  Naturally, other than this card, of course.

The recycle aspect is an interesting one.  You could potentially be getting a lot of cards back just for removing this one, but it certainly as spectacular as either card we covered earlier this week.  At the very least, this card literally, not just in the name, can be a reboot/reuse of the card(s) in question, so that’s appreciated.  It does some stuff, just not a LOT of good stuff.

Rating:  3.25/5

Art:  3/5  Clearly Stardust v Red Dragon, and I’m to assume it’s their Assault Forms, given that’s what all this is for, but the art itself is pretty bland.
