Hello Pojo Fans,

Battle Shogun of the Six Samurai wraps up the week and was referenced yesterday in the review of Gateway, because he’s Gateways new best friend.

Gateway searcher, fantastic, especially since Gateway sits at one. Exclusive to Six Samurai, I like that. Gaining a counter and 100 extra ATK off each summon of a Six Samurai is good, but lets cut to the chase: this card is meant to gain counters for Gateway, alongside Gateway gaining counters. With these two you have three counters off each summon of a Six Samurai, if Dojo is on the field as well you facilitate the Gateway second effect off each summon…wow. You can loop with this card to give it infinite counters and with Master Rule 5 coming you may end up with a field of utter negation with Shi-En, Beast, Barkion, this card and two other negation-capable monsters, not to mention this cards ATK could be booster to the highest on the field. Summoning to the link points to add the counter to this card isn’t a tough restriction, considering you can link away constantly and now fill your zones with Synchro and Xyz monsters. You could even link those away and loop your plays if you wanted.

You can search any Bushido counter card with this, but you will likely always go after Gateway. If you draw Gateway, you can always keep the card you have to discard for this effect, sounds like a win-win.

Since it seems Six Samurai needs all the Extra Deck mechanics we got a Link Monster for them in Battle Shogun of the Six Samurai.

Battle Shogun is a Link-2 EARTH Warrior with 1000 ATK and arrows pointing Bottom Left and Bottom Right. Low ATK even for a LINK-2, being EARTH and Warrior is nice, and the arrows are great. The summoning requirements are any 2 Warriors, including a Six Samurai. They tried to make this not as generic as Isolde, and while they succeeded, they at least left the room for creativity for what cards you could play in Six Samurai, though you’d mostly stick to Six Samurai monsters. Insanely easy to summon in the archetype, though. Upon being Link Summoned, you can discard a card to search for any card you can place Bushido Counters on from your Deck. So basically every opening Six Samurai hand can have access to Gateway of the Six, and if you already hard drew into it, you can search any other Bushido Counter generators to help fuel Gateway of the Six like Six Samurai United, Shien’s Dojo, and Temple of the Six. If you don’t have enough Bushido Counters there now, Battle Shogun also gains 1 Bushido Counter when a Six Samurai is Normal or Special Summoned to a zone it points to, and it gains 100 ATK for each counter it has. Again, Six Samurai wasn’t really shy with Bushido Counter generation, so I don’t know if this was needed, but it’s most certainly great to have more Bushido Counters for your Gateway to take advantage of. The search effect on this card is the only hard once per turn, and probably the only effect that needed it since it’d probably guarantee us never having Gateway at any more than 1. Battle Shogun is great support for the Six Samurai archetype to help the Deck make even more plays, most certainly you use this in your Extra Deck.

Art: 4.5/5 I’m a massive fan of the Six Samurai’s style of ancient warriors.

Battle Shogun of the Six Samurai closes the week, in accordance appropriately with Throwback Thursday.  This is a Link 2, Earth type, Warrior Monster, with 1000 attack, who has arrows pointing to the respective bottom diagonals.  Link Summon is performed 2 Warrior Monsters, including a Six Samurai Monster.  Easy and appropriate enough, no?

If Link Summoned, you can discard one card to add a card from your Deck that specifically places a Bushido Counter(s), such as yesterday’s card.  An honest 1-for-1 trade there, to ditch something to get something you want immediately.  Dumping a Six Samurai likely to be revived shortly is a great thought as well, given all their swarming from anywhere.

If a Six Samurai is Special Summoned to a Zone this card points to, it gets a Bushido Counter, and gets a (WHOPPING) 100 attack for each one.  Well, in fairness, it is 100 attack for each Counter on your Field, not just generated by himself.  But even 200 attack extra per Counter would have made this a little more interesting. It still wouldn’t have been enough to break anything open.

But good cards should have drawbacks, even little ones, and the small attack body here is what does it.  But it’s a great card for the Six Samurai player, and you definitely need this in your Extra Deck.

Art:  5/5  Unlike Mufasa, the King apparently hasn’t descended from on high to mingle with the commoners.  Very dark, very tribal, love the throne, love the armor/suit, love the hair, and I like the subtle hints of warm colors at his feet and directly to the sides of the throne.
