Yu-Gi-Oh Battles of Legend: Crystal Revenge – What You Should Know
Crunch$G
Darken the rainbow, taste the rainbow! Hello Pojo Readers, Crunch$G here to tell you everything you need to know about the last pack to release in 2022 for the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG, Battles of Legend: Crystal Revenge. This set continues the Battles of Legend legacy by giving us many anime cards players have waited on for years to be printed, alongside several key reprints that have been needed for some time and others getting rarity upgrades. We also continue the trend of putting Starlight Rares in Battles of Legend that started in 2020 with Armageddon, but this one ups the count. There’s several things to cover in this set, so let’s get started.
The Starlight Rares
Of course we got to start with the Starlight Rares included in this year’s Battles of Legend. Now while in previous years we’ve only seen 2 Starlight Rares in these sets, this year we go all the way up to 10 Starlight Rares being included to pull this year. The only 2 Starlight Rares to be included as part of the main set to be pulled regularly as well are Borreload Savage Dragon and Accesscode Talker, the other 8 are add-ons only able to be pulled in Starlight Rare. The first one is the classic card that was finally released from the Forbidden section this year, Yata-Garasu. The second Starlight Rare goes alongside Darkwing Blast’s release as we get Blackwing Armor Master to join Black-Winged Dragon. The third Starlight is one of the more popular Spells in the game, especially since the release of Garura, Wings of Resonant Life, as we have Super Polymerization. Finally, as we saw in OCG’s World Premiere Pack 2022, we have the entire set of Exodia able to be pulled in Starlight Rare.
Other Side of the Rainbow
We start looking at new cards now by starting with the full fledged archetypes included in this set, starting with the archetype that takes front and center on the box and packs, which are the Advanced Crystal Beasts from the GX anime. Now, all the Advanced Crystal Beasts share the same traits where they are sent from the Monster Zone to the graveyard if Advanced Dark is not in the Field Zone, as well as the classic Crystal Beast effects where being destroyed in the Monster Zone will let you put them in the Spell & Trap Zone as Continuous Spells. Now with all the similarities out of the way, we look at what makes each monster unique. Advanced Crystal Beast Ruby Carbuncle is a Level 3 LIGHT Fairy that while it’s treated as a Continuous Spell, you can Special Summon it and as many Advanced Crystal Beast monsters in your Spell & Trap Zone as possible. Advanced Crystal Beast Amethyst Cat is a Level 3 EARTH Beast who lets your Advanced Crystal Beast monsters attack directly, but any damage they do using this effect becomes halved. Advanced Crystal Beast Emerald Tortoise is a Level 3 WATER Aqua who has a soft once per turn Quick Effect to target a face-up monster on the field and change its battle position. Advanced Crystal Beast Topaz Tiger is a Level 4 EARTH Beast who lets all your Advanced Crystal Beast monsters gain 400 ATK and DEF while the opponent’s monsters lose 400 ATK and DEF. Advanced Crystal Beast Amber Mammoth is a Level 4 EARTH Beast who has a Quick Effect once per turn when the opponent activates a card or effect that targets your Advanced Crystal Beast card(s) or Advanced Dark, letting you negate the activation, also it has another once per turn effect when one of your Advanced Crystal Beasts are targeted for an attack, letting you negate that attack. Advanced Crystal Beast Cobalt Eagle is a Level 4 WIND Winged Beast who can be sent from the hand or field to the graveyard to let you add an Advanced Dark from your Deck to your hand, also it can let you target an Advanced Crystal Beast you control and either return it to your hand or place it on top of the Deck. Finally, Advanced Crystal Beast Sapphire Pegasus is a Level 4 WIND Beast who on summon can let you place an Advanced Crystal Beast into your Spell & Trap Zone as a Continuous Spell from your hand, Deck, graveyard, or banished pile.
GG G Golems
The only other full wave of archetype support in this set is the G Golem archetype from the VRAINS anime, giving us an EARTH-based Cyberse strategy to use from the show. G Golem Rock Hammer is a Level 6 EARTH Cyberse who if it’s in your hand, you can discard another Cyberse monster to decrease this card’s Level by 2, also you can tribute this monster to summon 3 G Golem Tokens (Cyberse/EARTH/Level 1/ATK 0/DEF 0) in Defense Position, but you can only Special Summon Cyberse monsters for the rest of that turn. G Golem Pebble Dog is a Level 2 EARTH Cyberse who on Normal or Special Summon lets you summon a G Golem Pebble Dog from your Deck, but you can only Special Summon Cyberse monsters for the rest of the turn, also if this card is sent from the hand to the graveyard, you can add a G Golem card from your Deck to your hand. G Golem Crystal Heart is a Link-2 WATER Cyberse with arrows pointing Left and Down, needs 2 Cyberse monsters to summon, can target an EARTH Link in your graveyard to Special Summon it to a zone this card points to and then this card gains a GG Counter, also all EARTH Links co-linked to this card gains 600 ATK for each GG Counter on this card, also it can attack twice and deal piercing damage. G Golem Stubborn Menhir is a Link-2 EARTH Cyberse with arrows pointing Up and Down, needs 2 EARTH monsters to summon, and if Special Summoned from the graveyard, you can target an EARTH monster in your graveyard that can be Normal Summoned or Set and either Special Summon it (but its effects are negated and it’s banished when it leaves the field) or add it to your hand. G Golem Invalid Dolmen is a Link-3 EARTH Cyberse with arrows pointing Up, Left, and Right, needs 2+ EARTH monsters to summon, lets co-linked monsters you control be unaffected by the monster effects activated on the opponent’s field, makes all monsters the opponent controls that are able to attack to attack this card, once per turn lets you discard a Cyberse monster to draw a card, and if destroyed while co-linked can negate the effects of all face-up cards the opponent currently controls. G Golem Dignified Trilithon is a Link-4 EARTH Cyberse with arrows pointing Up, Down, Left, and Right, needs 2+ EARTH monsters to summon, makes all monsters the opponent controls attack this card, if able, once per battle when it battles an opponent’s monster, you get a Quick Effect to send an EARTH monster from your hand to the graveyard to make the opponent’s monster lose 200 ATK and have its effects negated, and when your opponent activates a card or effect that targets a Link Monster you control, you get a Quick Effect to negate that effect and destroy that card. Finally, Gravity Balance is a Normal Spell that’s always treated as a G Golem card, lets you target 2 of your EARTH monsters with the same name that are banished or in your graveyard and Special Summon them with their effects negated and ATK/DEF becoming 0, also they’re destroyed during the End Phase, also if a G Golem monster(s) you control would be destroyed by battle or opponent’s card effect, you can banish this card from the graveyard instead.

In Conclusion
This is probably a better Battles of Legend set than the previous 2, to be honest. The reprints in this set are much better, and we got some very pretty Secret Rare upgrades. The new cards probably won’t impact the meta, but G Golems have potential, EN Shuffle is great for HEROs, and it’s cool to see things like the Advanced Crystal Beasts finally printed in physical form. The Starlight Rares are the big chase of the set, like always, and pull rates are up to being 1 per case nearly since they did double the total number of Starlights, which offer some nice things for competitive players, past format players, and collectors. It’s a great set to end the year on, but we got 1 more Structure Deck remaining before 2022 is over.
