Simple, yet effective, Bedevil is effectively a Hero’s Downfall that adds the extra color to enable more flexibility. The color restriction is definitely real, as it asks for three specific kinds of mana, but being able to blow up one of potentially three possible problematic permanents is an excellent use of a card slot. It’s not flashy or spectacular, but Bedevil is almost definitely going to be a Standard staple for the entire run of Ravnica Allegiance in Standard. Constructed: 4.25 |
David Fanany Player since 1995 I would undoubtedly cause a lot of controversy if I compared this card to Vindicate. The fact is, it’s not really like it – the need to destroy an Ixalan’s Binding is often very pressing and the difference between victory and defeat. But artifacts, creatures, and planeswalkers cover a lot of the major threats in Standard right now, including the new format bogeyman Teferi. Three-mana removal spells of this type are often better in slower decks than in faster ones, but it’s still a very useful and flexible card to have around, and a good reason to use black and red together. Constructed: 4/5 |
