Hello Pojo Fans,

Back at it again with Beetrooper cards, starting with Beetrooper Assault Roller.

Easy Special Summon ability, banishing an Insect from your grave, and even if you don’t have one, Assault Roller is a Level 4…you like seeing Special Summon abilities on Level 4 and lower monsters, makes them good extenders. The more Insect-Type monsters you have on the field, the more Assault Roller’s ATK goes up, even if it is only by 200ATK each time. You likely aren’t using Assault Roller for any brute force pushes. The search effect is good when Assault Roller is staying on the field, but when used as an extender to get to bigger, better Beetrooper monsters you won’t get the search. Scout Buggy with its ability to get another copy of itself to the field upon its summon sets up a Link 2 and puts material in the grave for Assault Roller, giving you an instant Link 3 off two cards.

Assault Roller isn’t anything special really: a good Level 4 that can be an Insect extender in any Insect-based deck.

Beetroopers return with their final wave of TCG exclusive support, starting this week off with Beetrooper Assault Roller.

Assault Roller is a Level 4 EARTH Insect with 1600 ATK and 1400 DEF. Fine stats, EARTH is good, and Insect seems to be getting a little love with this archetype and Inzektors and I’d expect more when OCG gets this stuff. You can Special Summon this from hand by banishing any Insect from your graveyard, but you can only summon it once per turn this way. It’s basically a searchable Aztekipede for Beetroopers, with the positive of being able to be Normal Summoned or Special Summoned via other means, but the negative being you can only Special Summon it once this way while Aztekipede can be summoned any number of times. It gains 200 ATK for every other Insect you control, so you can get some respectable stats on this if you’re using this for battle. Upon being destroyed in battle, you can search for any Beetrooper monster from Deck that isn’t another Assault Roller. Searching is nice, but only on battle destruction is not great anymore, which most likely means your opponent will just remove this with other means. Hard once per turn search as well, assuming your opponent would of actually ran over multiples of these in battle or you decide to ram your Assault Rollers. The first effect is really all this needed, having a searchable monster that can Special Summon itself by banishing an Insect from grave is pretty useful for the Deck considering this week’s Throwback Thursday choice is a staple in Beetrooper. Okay card worth having a copy of in Beetroopers.

Beetrooper week kicks off with Assault Roller.  Earth/Insect in a normal and natural pairing; and 1600/1400 isn’t terrible but not flashy for a Level 4 in terms of stats.  A Special Summon from the Hand simply by removing any Insect from your Grave is a fair and honest thing to have on a card; a nice 1-for-1.  (Limited to once per Turn, of course).  200 extra attack x each Insect you control OTHER than this card is just okay, he’s only at 1600 and even with one other, counting himself is only 2000…that’s hardly broken.  Lastly, another once per Turn Effect lets you add any Theme Monster from your Deck to your Hand (aside from itself) when this card is destroyed.  But ONLY by Battle, so that really hurts the card as well.  This card is decent, but it’s not GOOD…they over nerfed this card, for reasons beyond me.  The attack should’ve been 1800 or counted itself for its powerup, and any destruction for the second Effect is all but par for the course these days.

Art:  4/5  I rather enjoy (and am slightly disturbed) by this picture, but overall, it’s fun

After a rather stellar showing in Dawn of Majesty, the Beetroopers are back with new support in Burst of Destiny, which sets the stage for this week’s theme. First up is Beetrooper Assault Roller, a level 4 EARTH insect that kicks off this week’s reviews. Being level 4 is a bit of a letdown since it won’t be able to XYZ summon Cicada King with the other level 3 Beetroopers, but since their main summoning method is link summoning it doesn’t hurt too much. 1600 attack and 1400 defense is a balanced but still rather low stat spread, even if it’s one of the few of its kind in modern Yugioh.

Assault Roller can be special summoned by banishing 1 insect monster from your graveyard (once per turn of course), which is always useful for extending; Beetroopers appreciate the extra link bodies, especially after anything goes wrong. Plus, insect monsters have banishing-related effects surprisingly often, so you’ll likely trigger some bonuses in the process. It gains 200 attack for every other insect on your side of the field, which is a shockingly outdated effect. Even with a full board of insects, extra monster zone included, Assault Roller would cap out at a measly 2600 attack, so this effect might as well not be there. Assault Roller’s last effect is a hard once per turn; when it’s destroyed by battle, you can add a Beetrooper from your deck to your hand, though not itself. Battle floaters are also antiquated in modern Yugioh, so it’s unlikely this will come up in a game-saving scenario. Overall a decent extender for Beetroopers, you can ignore everything past the first effect which makes up for the other two being almost useless.

Art: 3.5/5 Considering this guy is a dung beetle, I don’t wanna imagine what getting hit by that ball would be like…
